2025 Honda CBR650R E-Clutch Likely Coming Soon; Details

The CBR650R was in the news not too long ago, as it returned to India after a gap of three years, alongside its naked sibling; the CB650R. Both motorcycles were launched without the E-Clutch technology that was unveiled globally in 2024. From the teaser image, the very visible monoshock suspension, the shape of the rear seat cowl and a few more hardware elements give away that it is the CBR650R underneath the silhouette.

Underneath the familiar design, the CBR650R E-Clutch comes with the same 648cc, liquid-cooled, four-cylinder powertrain, producing 93.8bhp at 12,000rpm and 63Nm of torque at 9500rpm. The E-Clutch technology brings in a fully-automatic clutch that takes away the need to use a clutch lever, and allows you to use the shift pedal in a manner similar to how one would use a quickshifter. It also allows riders to adjust the 'feel' of the clutch lever upto three different settings; hard, medium and soft. It is also possible to completely turn off the E-Clutch system in case one wants to get fully hands-on.

Design-wise, the CBR650R E-Clutch remains identical to the standard CBR650R. It features the same full-fairing, with the sharper headlamps over the previous-gen motorcycle, along with a redesigned tail section. However, the CBR650R packs in more premium hardware, such as 41mm Showa semi-function big-piston USD forks, along with a 10-step preload adjustable monoshock.
The CBR650R E-Clutch will have no direct rivals upon launch, but the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Triumph Daytona 650 can be considered close rivals. We can also expect the E-Clutch to command a premium over the regular CBR650R.

Verdict
The CBR650R E-Clutch will see the debut of Honda's new automatic transmission tech in India, and we can expect more motorcycles to follow as well. There are going to be no direct rivals to this middleweight sportsbike once launched.
