- Cars from different manufacturers no longer be on sale from April 2023
- Since new RDE Norms kicked in or as a result of sluggish sales
- Honda, Skoda, Mahindra, and more manufacturers included
Courtesy of stringent RDE norms that kicked in on April 1 this year, it paved way for a lot of significant changes. The engines from all the manufacturers are now updated in line with the BS6 Phase 2. While a lot of updates took place, it also lead the way to some being discontinued altogether. From Honda Jazz to Skoda Octavia, each model had its own reason for bidding farewell, be it low sales or regulatory dictates.
Let's look at all the cars that got discontinued in April 2023.
1. Nissan Kicks

Owing to poor sales numbers, the Nissan Kicks has been struck off Nissan India's lineup. What's interesting to note is that the Kicks didn't see a single unit sold in the past 3 months, which decided the fate of this ill-fated compact SUV.
2. Skoda Octavia

The new-gen Skoda Octavia made its debut in India in June 2021 and was powered by a 2.0-liter petrol mill that produced 188bhp and 320Nm of peak torque. The motor was mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The brand has skipped the BS6 2 update for the sedan due to stringent norms. Now only Slavia, Kushaq, Kodiaq, and the Superb retail from the Skoda outlets.
3. Honda City 4th Gen Discontinued

Honda in the month of March 2023 was selling both the fourth-gen Honda City along with the latest Honda City 2023 facelift. Keeping the previous generation is never a viable option, keeping in mind that the new-gen offers better mechanicals and features. So, with March 2023 gone, the 4th Gen departs as well.
4. Honda WR-V

The only compact SUV from the house of Honda was this Honda WR-V, but it failed to make an impact in the market. It kept on with sluggish sales, which also didn't make sense for Honda to update it for the new norms. Plus, a new 2023 Honda SUV, a Hyundai Creta rival is also just around the corner, so the WR-V is put to rest.
5. Honda Jazz

The dwindling sales of this hatchback made it a not-so-viable contender for an updated BS6 Phase 2 engine. It wasn't attracting much footfall to the showrooms, so the Honda Jazz bids adieu from April 2023.

6. Maruti 800 Discontinued
The iconic Maruti Suzuki 800 has now marked the end of its era. Starting April 1, 2023, the plug has been pulled off its manufacturing, making the revered hatch of India a legend of the past. The rising costs and the Alto K10 as a replacement facilitated this particular move.
7. Hyundai i20 Diesel

This is again a victim of the new stringent RDE norms that came into effect on April 1. This made the diesel engine option on the Hyundai i20, a thing of the past. The petrol powertrain was updated to meet the latest norms and now remains the only option. Also, the new Hyundai Verna 2023 is also now a petrol-only car. It marked the end of diesel sedans in the segment as well.
8. Mahindra Alturas G4

Mahindra Alturas G4 was introduced as a direct rival of the Toyota Fortuner, but despite offering tech-loaded insides with reliable and powerful mechanicals, it failed to dent the dominance of the Fortuner. Also, retailing at a wider price difference than the Fortuner didn't help in its endeavor at all. With sales not matching up with the existing portfolio under its roof, Mahindra decides to let the Alturas G4 in the past.
9. Innova Crysta Petrol Discontinued

Toyota Innova Crysta is nothing but a synonymous name for a 7-seater family vehicle. The ride quality and reliability add to the mass appeal of this family mover. Since It was retracted from the website, speculations of its axing flared up. But it returned as an all-diesel Crysta with the petrol Hycross taking care of the others as well. The previous petrol Crysta models which were being sold till now, have been stopped altogether as the BS6 Phase 2 deadline is already crossed.
10. Renault Kwid 800cc

Renault Kwid came in two engine options. An 800 cc unit and one 1.0 liter unit. The discontinuation of the 800cc variant is a result of less demand and increasing costs. So updating the same will not make sense for the company, and this is exactly what followed. Since the 1.0-liter unit is selling more, it is now the only option available.
