Nissan Electric Car India Launch Plans Out - Full Details

Automakers like Nissan Motor Corporation are slowly shifting their keen eyes towards launching electric vehicles in India by studying the EV ecosystem. Electric cars are said to be the latest trend in the automotive world and the future of mobility that stands as an innovative solution to the problem of IC vehicles contributing to the already increasing carbon footprint.

Since EVs are a mobility solution that has been widely accepted by the country, many automakers are entering the EV business. One such car maker interested in the EV business is Nissan Motor Corporation, a Japanese automaker popular in India for its passenger vehicles.

Nissan has announced that it is conducting research and market study to launch electric vehicles in India. They are focusing on the possibility of locally manufacturing EVs by establishing a gigafactory in the country.

The study initially began three months ago and is said to continue for another 9 months, according to a piece of information provided by Ashwani Gupta, the global COO of Nissan. The plan is to introduce a complete EV ecosystem that caters to the requirements such as EV infrastructures, charging stations and much more that are in demand.

"Electrification is not just a one day task, since it takes time to build battery manufacturing units, charging stations and other infrastructures. Also, there is a need to launch the EVs at an affordable price as we are customer-oriented. Many challenges like cost of operations, cost of infrastructures and profitability needs to be addressed. However, we do know that all these would be the stairway to EV evolution," said Gupta.

Based on the EV market research that the company has conducted, Gupta shares his view," India must not focus on CKD or CBU operations as of now for the EV market. Like Nissan's Magnite and Renault Kwid, EVs must be fully localised. As a matter of fact, to gain a profitable economic scale, the EV plants should be able to export the products manufactured."
