Why Electric Scooter ?
Pros & Cons of Ola S1 Pro
Should I buy the S1 Pro?
Ola S1 Pro is a proper family electric scooter that is meant for all-age buyers. It looks good on the road, it has all the latest connected features, and its long range makes it one of the most practical choices in the segment. However, there are some quality issues reported on it and moreover, it looks similar to the low-range variants. In case you charge it at home, it takes a long time to get fully charged. Overall, we recommend it to premium buyers looking for a good e-scooter but without a concern of price.
- The design of the Ola S1 Pro is very subtle and sleek. The chiselled panels and the LED lights with sharp alloy wheels make it a head-turner on the road. Also, the build quality is decent on it. However, there are a few panel gaps and the quality of material used is not consistent throughout. But, it looks sleek and recognizable at first glimpse in the crowd.
- The single seat of it is well-designed for families and long rides. The space is ample and the cushioning is also well done. Moreover, the large flat footboard and the massive under-seat storage make it the most practical scooter in the segment.
- The rider sits comfortably as the handlebar position is neither high nor low. Also, the 805mm seat height offers decent practicality even for short-height riders in the city.
- The strongest point of the Ola S1 Pro is its battery pack and performance. It comes with an 11kW electric motor that generates a maximum riding range of 195 km (claimed). Also, with multiple riding modes available, it can touch up to 120 kmph at top speed as well.
- The scooter responds well from the go even in the Eco mode. There is ample power available in the most economical mode to ferry two people within the city. However, to climb the steep flyovers you need to switch to the Normal mode where the power delivery and speed increase.
- If you’re running late for the office, the Hyper mode is simply outstanding. It is worth witnessing how this little scooter shames the bigger cars on the road in performance. The acceleration becomes very quick (0-40 kmph in just 2.6 seconds) and at times it feels overpowered for the Indian roads in this mode.
- The cruise control feels very helpful when riding on open roads or the outskirts of the city.
- The range drop is well-controlled on the scooter. In Eco mode, it can easily fetch above 170 km of riding range. However, if you keep switching between all the modes, expect somewhere between 130 km to 150 km on a full charge.
- The battery heat management on the Gen 2 scooter is much improved than the previous model. It rarely gets heated up and if it does so, there is no issue with the rider and performance.
Ola claims that it takes 6.5 hours to charge a full charge using a wall outlet. The S1 can also be fast-charged, and according to Ola, it will provide 75 kilometers of range in just 18 minutes. Ola has ambitious intentions to build a fast-charging Hypercharger infrastructure throughout the nation, but so far only one charging station has been installed.
As far as range is concerned. On a full charge, the 3.97 kWh battery can give following range in different modes.
Mode | Range |
---|---|
Eco | 170 Km |
Normal | 135 Km |
Sport | 120 Km |
Hyper | 95 Km |
Summary
While the 170 km range is a bit far from the claimed 240 km range, it is still the best of the lot.
At Rs 1.4 lakhs ex-showroom, the main rivals of the Ola S1 Pro from the Electric scooter space include the likes of Ather 450X, TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak (which is yet to be launched completely). The Ola S1 Pro also goes up against the likes of Yamaha Aerox and TVS Ntorq which belong to the group of Conventionally powered scooters.
Summary
Without the subsidies, the Ola S1 pro is a bit on the expensive side for a scooter, however being one of the first movers it’s bound to create an impression in the segment.
- The suspension tuning of the Ola S1 Pro is comfortable for everyday use. It remains pliant and well-controlled even on the bad roads. Around the corners, it feels a bit soft and doesn’t encourage you to go faster. Moreover, with a pillion and luggage, there is a risk of the rear suspension bottoming out.
- The handling is also moderate of the S1 Pro. While within the city and at lower speeds it is confident and easy to use, the Hyper mode makes things scary as the handling doesn’t embed confidence to ride fast. The disengagement from the handlebar and less feedback are not meant for fast curves and corners.
- The braking department is also well sorted. It offers a strong bite and the short braking distance makes it safer to ride on the open roads and within the city as well.
- Ola S1 Pro is equipped with the utmost features. It has a big touchscreen infotainment that offers Google Maps, Geofencing, Proximity lock/unlock, and other such connected functions. Also, if you’re bored in a traffic jam you can play your favourite songs as well. The touch display works well and feels crisp to use.
- Features like Hill Hold, Energy Insights, etc., make it easier to live with it every day.
- To offer a safer riding experience, the S1 Pro comes equipped with a single-channel ABS. It also has disc brakes at both ends to ensure the safety of the passengers. Moreover, the different regen modes help to increase the stopping power of the scooter.
