Should I buy the Apache RTR 160?
TVS Apache RTR 160 has been present in the Indian market for a long now. Offering a great mix of sharp design and good build quality it has evolved with time. The latest model is equipped with a powerful engine that performs very well. The suspension and braking are also good for everyday riding. However, it is not as feature-rich as the rivals and the design is also boring now due to no changes to it. We recommend buying it for its comfortable riding and smooth engine performance. Else, there are better options in the segment.
- TVS recently updated the Apache RTR 160 with new LED lights and new paint options. However, it can not be denied that the bike looks old now. Its design is a decade old and it doesn’t attract attention on the road.
- Overall build quality of TVS bikes has always been top-notch. The Apache is no different case either. The plastic used and the fit and finish on the bike are very good. There are no panel gaps or inconsistencies to be bothered about.
- As it is a sports bike, it gets rear-set footpegs and a clip-on handlebar that gives a sporty feeling while riding. While this sitting position is enjoyable for short distances, touring on it can become hectic. For the city riding, it is comfortable enough.
- It has a seat height of 790mm that makes it very user-friendly for short riders as well.
Apache RTR 160 body specifications:
| Ground Clearance | 180 mm |

- For feature lovers, the Apache comes with LED lights, a digital instrument console, Bluetooth phone connectivity, SMS/call alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, three ride modes, and a fuel economy display as well.
- Additionally, it gets the Glide Through Technology (GTT) and a single-channel ABS.
- The engine of Apache 160 is unchanged with the new update. However, with the BS6 Phase 2 norms it has become a lot more refined. There is good low-end power and the bike picks from as low as 2,000 rpm. Also, you can rev it till the limiter and the engine will not vibrate or refuse to perform. It is powerful as well as has ample torque to use it in higher gear.
- With the 5-speed transmission, the engine power is delivered very linearly. There is no hesitation in pulling it from 15 kmph to 60 kmph in third gear. This user-friendly nature of the engine is very practical for everyday riding.
- The bike gets a Glide Through Technology (GTT). Using it the rider can potter inside the city without using the accelerator. In the first gear, it goes up to 7 kmph, in the second it does 12 kmph, while in the third it can ride up to 17 kmph without any throttle inputs.
- This engine is fuel-efficient as well. Within the city, you can expect it to deliver around 40 kmpl easily. However, the lack of sixth gear is evident on the highways and it delivers around 45 kmpl at speeds of around 80 kmph.
Apache RTR 160 engine specifications:
| Transmission | Manual |
| Mileage | 61 |
| Engine | 159.7 cc |
- The new Apache RTR 160 comes equipped with a telescopic front suspension and gas-charged dual-shockers at the rear. Thanks to this setup, Apache is one of the most comfortable bikes in the segment. Undulated roads, off-road sections, and broken patches are ironed out by its suspension very well. Despite of its sporty character and tuning, it is surprisingly a very comfortable bike.
- The handling of it is among the best in the segment. Sharp corners and curves or ghat sections are confidently taken due to sharp handling. The bike generates confidence in new riders to go faster on the road. Moreover, it is agile as well as compact to filter in the city traffic easily.
- It also gets petal disc brakes with an option of a single-channel ABS that helps in short braking distance. The braking power of Apache is strong and entices confidence in the rider.
Three variants of the TVS Apache RTR 160 are offered: the single-disc, dual-disc, and rear disc with Bluetooth variations. The single-disc variant has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 1.19 lakh, the dual-disc variant is priced at Rs. 1.22 lakh, and the third variant is priced at Rs. 1.26 lakh.
