Launched in October 2015, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been the highest-selling premium hatchback for many years now. The most expensive small car from the largest-selling carmaker in the country has a lot going for it, including peppy engines, high fuel efficiency, great ride quality and a spacious interior. Available in a price range of Rs 6-10 lakh, the Baleno goes on to lock horns with models like the third-gen Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz and Toyota Glanza.

The Maruti Baleno even benefits from its carmaker’s wide sales network and low maintenance. In fact, all the aforementioned attributes even help the owners with a high resale value in the used car market. While the Baleno has been around for over half a decade, it continues to rule over the segment sales charts in spite of being a petrol-only model. That said, the availability of the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine did help the small car garner a highly positive response back when it was first introduced in the market.
