Expert Speak

The XL6 is a practical 6 seater that’s easy to live with. Gets a peppy 1.5 petrol and the 4-speed auto is surprisingly good for urban runs.

About Maruti XL6

The XL6 has to be one of the best products from Maruti lately. It is based on the Ertiga but with minimal changes, Maruti has been able to create an all new product for a different category all together. This can be termed as a poor man’s Innova (in a good light) and why not. The USP here is the 2nd row that houses two independent captain seats and these offer tremendous amount of space and comfort levels. And because there is no bench in here, the last row passengers also get fair amount of space and do not feel hammered in. But there is more to the XL6 than just the practice cabin - the colour theme is different than that seen on the Ertiga and the darker colours do justice to the ‘premium tag’ it comes attached with. There are only two trims on offer and even the ‘base’ is fully loaded with features. The XL6 is a petrol only MPV and it means it gets the tried and tested 1.5 litre petrol that also does duties on the Ciaz, Ertiga and the Brezza. It has an optional 4-speed AT and we see it as a boon for urban runs. Light controls and good visibility further make the XL6 a good, easy to drive 6 seater. Ditto for the ride and handling factor that remains neutral. Passengers won’t really have a reason to complain though we won’t call it a good handling car - this is down to the fact that it has a level of body roll and the light steering doesn’t add much to the handing bit. However, for most owners, the XL6 will do just fine.
