There is, however, one key distinction at the rear. Although both MPVs share the same LED tail-lamp design, the XL6 gets a smoked-grey finish, whereas the Ertiga uses conventional red units. In addition, the upper half of the tailgate is finished in gloss black, which lends the XL6 a more premium appearance and helps it stand apart as a NEXA product. The rear bumper is also noticeably chunkier and more rugged.

Overall, the changes made by Maruti Suzuki clearly indicate its efforts to ensure that buyers do not simply see the XL6 as an Ertiga with a different badge.

Talking about the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the second trim, Vxi is really good and packs everything a potential customers is looking for, 4 speakers, 6 airbags, 2nd and 3rd row ac vents, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and paddle shifters if you go for AT. The asking price is Rs 9.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

Verdict

The biggest challenge with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is that it has become extremely common in the taxi and fleet market, which often makes private buyers hesitant to consider it. To address this, Maruti introduced the XL6 and positioned it at a higher price point to give it a more premium appeal, even though both MPVs are fundamentally the same underneath.

That said, the XL6 has one major drawback: it is available only as a six-seater. So, if you need seven seats, the Ertiga is the obvious choice.

Overall, however, both cars serve their purpose well, offering comfortable transportation from point A to point B. Opting for the CNG variants can also result in significant savings in the long run. In the end, the decision largely comes down to design and practicality. For me, the Ertiga feels like the better-balanced package, as it doesn't try too hard to stand out and carries a timeless appeal.
