MG S5Upcoming
Internationally, the S5 e-SUV has been the successor of the ZS EV. The MG S5 is one size bigger than the ZS Electric, looks modern, gets more features and a larger battery pack. When launched, the MG S5 EV, or ES5 EV could be placed in Rs 18-24 lakh bracket.
MG S5 Latest Update
Last Updated On 24th Jan'25: The MG S5 was showcased in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. This could be the right replacement for the aging ZS EV which was launched almost five years ago. The S5, or ES5 as its known in some markets, looks a lot like the MG4 and given its large battery pack and excellent performance, could give a tough fight to other electric SUVs like the Tata Curvv EV, MG Windsor, Hyundai Creta EV and the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara.
Design: The S5 takes a lot of design cues from the MG4 super hatch. Up front, the slim LED lights and a bold sporty bumper takes center stage. The rear too is modern, with a connected LED bar lending a cool touch. It is longer and broader than the ZS EV and road presence, if launched, will not be an issue. The S5 will get a choice of both 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Battery Pack: Internationally, the MG S5 has two battery sizes, both LFP type. The smaller 49.1 kWh pack offers a range of 425km while the larger 62.2 kWh pack is good for as much as 525km. These battery packs are made by SAIC’s battery partner CATL. For the uninitiated, MG is part of the SAIC or Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation group.
Electric Motor: The S5 gets a unique RWD (rear-wheel drive) set-up. In contrary, all other e-SUVs in the segment are front wheel driven. The RWD set up should make the S5 a good handling electric SUV. Max power stands at 170 PS and peak torque at 250Nm. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 in less than 8 seconds, which is a tad slower than the current ZS EV.
Features: MG is known to load up their offerings with lot of features and the S5 will be no different. Expect the car to come with Level 2 ADAS along with twin screen set-up, wireless connectivity, panoramic glass roof, ventilated and powered seats, powered tail gate, sizeable frunk, 360 camera and more. If launched, MG could offer BAAS scheme with the S5 also.
Price & Launch time: MG is tight-lipped on the product and hasn’t officially revealed anything. However, given the increasing competition, the S5 might be considered for a 2025 launch for the Indian market. If launched, expect a premium of about half a lakh over the current ZS EV e-SUV.

I expect a good competition with rivals like Creata BE6 Atto3 Curve so pricing will play a very crucial role and then need not discontinue ZS EV since it can be continued with lesser price. This way MG will have 4 kinds of EV customers.
