The 125cc commuter motorcycle segment is one of the most sought-after motorcycle segment in India. We have a lot of contenders in this segment ranging from effortless commuters to sporty commuters. However, there are two 125cc motorcycles which are the best selling bikes in this category. These motorcycles are unanimously loved by all. Yes, we are talking about the Honda Shine and the Hero Super Splendor 125. Recently, the BS6-compliant version of these motorcycles were launched in India. So, today we have for you a detailed comparison of the new 2020 Hero Super Splendor vs Honda Shine BS6.
Hero Super Splendor 125 has always been a handsome looking motorcycle. With the BS6 update, it has got even better. Upfront, the motorcycle gets a rectangular headlamp with angular layouts and chrome surrounds. From the side profile, the motorcycle looks quite long and it gets new attractive body graphics. It also gets chrome touches on the toolbox and also on the exhaust muffler. The rear profile hasn't changed much and it looks the same as before. It is available in four colour variants: Nexus Blue, Glaze Black, Candy Blazing Red and Heavy Grey.
Honda Shine 125 is also a very good looking motorcycle. The new BS6 Shine gets big chrome surrounds around the angular headlamp. The side profile of the motorcycle is quite appealing as it gets new attractive body graphics. It also gets chrome inserts on the exhaust muffler and a chrome-embellished three-dimensional Honda logo on the fuel tank. Again, the rear profile of the new Shine is the same as before. The BS6 Honda Shine 125 is offered in four colour variants: Black, Geny Grey Metallic, Athletic Blue Metallic and Rebel Red Metallic.

Hero Super Splendor is powered by a BS6-compliant 124.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This motor churns out 10.8 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 10.6 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. The engine comes mated to 5-speed manual gearbox. It also gets Hero's XSens fuel-injection technology that helps in delivering optimum performance and maximum fuel-efficiency. It returns around 55-60 kmpl of mileage in real-world conditions.
Honda Shine is powered by a BS6-compliant 124cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This motor churns out 10.7 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 11 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. The engine comes coupled to 5-speed manual gearbox. It gets Honda's Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) technology that maximizes performance and fuel efficiency. It also features Honda's Eco Technology (HET) and an ACG silent starter motor. The BS6 Shine returns around 55-60 kmpl of mileage in real-world conditions

Hero Super Splendor 125 rides on 18-inch tubeless tyres. The front tyre measures 80/100-18 while the rear one is a 90/90 section 18-inch unit. It gets telescopic forks at the front and 5-step adjustable spring-loaded dual shock-absorbers at the rear. Honda Shine also runs on 18-inch HET tubeless tyres. Both the tyres measure 80/100-18 and they offer low rolling resistance. It gets telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic type dual shock-absorbers at the rear. The braking duties on both the motorcycles are handled by a 130 mm drum at the rear. While at the front, one can opt between a 130 mm drum or 240 mm disc on either of these motorcycles. The Super Splendor gets Integrated Braking System (IBS) while the Shine gets a Combined Braking System (CBS) as an additional safety aid. Both the motorcycles get an analogue instrument cluster.
The Front Drum Brake variant of the Hero Super Splendor 125 is priced at Rs. 68,150 while the Front Disc variant is priced at Rs. 71,650. Honda Shine 125 BS6 is priced at Rs. 68,812 for the Front Drum Brake variant and Rs. 73,512 for the Front Disc variant. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi. Talking about the verdict, so if you want a slightly more powerful machine with better comfort and good mileage at a relatively lower price, then you should choose the Super Splendor BS6. But, if you want a more refined machine with attractive looks and great mileage, then you should choose the Honda Shine BS6.
