On first impressions, the Pulsar NS400Z does not appear too different. However, a closer look will reveal a wider 150-section rear tyre, but with the same 17-inch rim as before. The bike now also features sintered brake pads on both ends, and don't worry, we are going to explain the importance of sintered brake pads. These type of brake pads are made out of a mixture of metallic particles pressed together. These are more durable than regular brake pads, and they are also more consistent over a wider range of conditions.

The 373cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder powertrain has been retained, but the power has now gone up from 40PS to 43PS, while the torque remains the same at 35Nm. The redline figure of the engine has gone up to 10,700rpm in Sport mode - a 1000rpm higher than before. This figure changes to 10,300rpm in Road mode.

Bajaj claims improved performance figures; 0-60kmph time now goes down from 3.2 seconds to 2.7 seconds, while 0-100kmph time goes down from 7.5 seconds to 6.4 seconds. It also reaches a higher top speed of 157kmph, and the throttle response is also said to have gotten more aggressive than before. Additionally, the Pulsar NS400Z now also gets a sensorless quickshifter system that works for both upshifts and downshifts, and only in Sport mode.

Everything else remains familiar on the new Pulsar NS400Z. It continues to look the same, and it also comes with the same set of features as before; dual-channel ABS, ride-by-wire, four ride modes, a slip-and-assist clutch, navigation, music streaming, and call/SMS alerts among other things.

Verdict

The new Pulsar NS400Z comes with changes that focus more on improving the performance and hardware bits, while retaining the core design and electronics package. With the price difference being not so high, Bajaj should not find it too difficult to gain customers.
