The Audi Q3, the sub-compact luxury SUV, is finally set to debut in a refreshed avatar, with the global unveiling scheduled for June 16th. While the second generation was launched globally in 2019 and continues to be on sale, it's now due for a generational update. In India, the second-gen Q3 arrived in 2022 and is currently offered in two body styles - the standard and the Sportback. Based on that, it's unclear when this updated version will arrive in the Indian market, but globally, the launch is expected by the end of this year. Audi Q3
The Q3, the most affordable Audi in India, enjoyed a golden run with its first generation, quickly becoming the fastest-selling compact luxury SUV. Its success was largely driven by its affordability - it started at around Rs 28 lakh - making it a dream come true for many aspiring luxury car owners. Additionally, the availability of multiple powertrains, including diesel, contributed to its impressive fuel efficiency. However, the second generation hasn't been able to carry forward that momentum. The competition has caught up and significantly surpassed it, leaving the Q3 behind. Moreover, the current model lacks several modern features, and its interior feels outdated, as if stuck in the previous decade.
This brings us to the upcoming Q3 - the model that needs to uplift the brand and revive its former glory. So far, Audi has only revealed the headlight and a side panel, which don't disclose much in terms of design changes. However, we can still get a fair idea of how it might look. After all, the 2025 Audi Q5 has already been unveiled in international markets, and its a no-brainer that the new Q3 will resemble its younger sibling. This design strategy is quite common in the industry these days, and keeping that in mind, we can anticipate what to expect from it.
A giant grille, Audi's 2D logo, connected LED tail-lights, panoramic sunroof, and a new-age interior featuring a flat-bottomed, leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, a large infotainment screen with Virtual Cockpit, and dual-zone climate control - all hint at a modern and premium experience. As for the powertrain, it will most likely remain the same: a 2.0L TFSI inline 4-cylinder engine. However, it might now be paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system to enhance both efficiency and performance.

Verdict
The Audi Q3, an entry-level car, has long been struggling in the sales charts. The number one reason is that it is no longer a desirable product. There are several other options that cost less than its starting price of Rs 45 lakh and offer outstanding road presence and a better overall package - something the Q3 fails to deliver. Moreover, its direct competitors, like the Mercedes GLA and BMW X1, are far more compelling products and sell better despite being more expensive.
