The 'Bharat New Car Assessment Programme' will center its attention on the criteria established by different private organizations that assess safety, such as 'Latin-NCAP' and 'G-NCAP.' The objective of the program is to offer car buyers a means to make a side-by-side evaluation of the crash safety features of various vehicles accessible in the market. Prospective car buyers can utilize these star ratings as a reference to compare the safety specifications of different vehicles, aiding them in making informed decisions when purchasing a car.

With the launch of the Bharat NCAP, automobile manufacturers have the option to subject their vehicles to testing in accordance with the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 197. Depending on the outcomes of these tests, the vehicles will receive star ratings for Adult Occupants (AOP) and Child Occupants (COP).

Lately, the government has enforced several obligatory measures to enhance vehicle safety in India. These include the requirement for new cars to be equipped with six airbags and seat belt reminders.
