Bharat Petroleum Join Forces With Tata Passenger To Set Up 7,000 Charging Points!

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Partnership leverages BPCL's extensive fuel station network
  • TPEM's insights from over 115,000 Tata EVs
  • BPCL aims to install 7,000 electric vehicle charging stations
  • Convenient payment system through a co-branded RFID card

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) have joined hands to make electric vehicle (EV) charging more accessible across India. This collaboration capitalizes on BPCL's extensive network of fuel stations and TPEM's knowledge gained from over 1.15 lakh Tata EVs cruising on Indian roads. Together, they plan to install charging stations strategically at places frequently visited by Tata EV owners. Moreover, BPCL aims to learn from the usage patterns of these chargers to enhance the overall experience for customers.

TPEM and BPCL have joined forces to enhance the experience for electric vehicle (EV) owners in India. They're considering introducing a user-friendly payment system with a co-branded RFID card, making it simpler for Tata EV users to make payments and encouraging more people to switch to electric vehicles.

BPCL, with its extensive network of over 21,000 Fuel Stations, is dedicated to a sustainable future by integrating strategy, investments, and environmental goals. They have ambitious plans to set up 7,000 electric vehicle charging stations by the next year. To address concerns about the range of electric vehicles, BPCL has kickstarted more than 90 Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Highway Corridors across the country. These corridors ensure a fast-charging station approximately every 100 kilometres on both sides of major highways, covering over 30,000 kilometres. This initiative aims to enhance the convenience and accessibility of electric vehicles, making them a more viable and attractive option for users nationwide.

TPEM stands out as the top player in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market, with an impressive 71% market share in electric passenger vehicles. Over 115,000 Tata EVs are currently cruising on Indian roads, with a significant 75% serving as primary vehicles. TPEM remains at the forefront of India's electric mobility revolution.

Global case studies emphasize the crucial role of widespread and convenient charging infrastructure in boosting EV adoption. They reveal that an increase in charging infrastructure not only facilitates electric vehicle usage but also sparks a notable surge in adoption rates. The collaboration between two major companies is poised to fast-track the expansion of charging infrastructure in India, playing a pivotal role in making electric vehicle adoption more mainstream in the country.

Verdict

The BPCL and TPEM collaboration is a great move for building a strong electric vehicle charging infrastructure in India. With BPCL's wide network and TPEM's EV knowledge, this partnership can make a real impact, speeding up the use of electric vehicles nationwide.
