A Ride Through History

When Honda launched the Activa, back in 2001, the Indian two-wheeler space was dominated by geared scooters and motorcycles. The idea of a gearless scooter that could be ridden by anyone, be it old, young, male or female, was still fresh. Yet at just the right moment, the Activa arrived with Japanese reliability and Indian sensibility. Over the years, Honda has refined the Activa through multiple generations, which includes better efficiency, smart features and all this without losing its no-nonsense appeal.

Let's take a closer look how the Activa evolved over the years:-
- 2001 Activa 100cc: This was the first model of the gearless scooter, simple, sturdy and extremely reliable.
- 2009 Activa 110cc: Following that, Honda introduced the 109cc engine with the second generation, which was more refined and fuel efficient.
- 2013 Activa i: A light and cheaper version of the Activa 110 was launched.
- 2014 Activa 125: After the success of the second generation, Honda launched a bigger 125cc scooter with the same appeal.
- 2015 Activa 3G: Honda comes up with the third-generation model, which includes the new HET(Honda Eco Tech), which was basically for better fuel efficiency, along with tubeless tyres.
- 2017 Activa 4G: With this generation, Honda brought subtle design updates along with BSIV emission norms compliance.
- 2018 Activa 5G: This new generation came with a semi-digital instrument cluster and an LED headlamp setup.
- 2020 Activa 6G: Honda launched this generation with BSVI compliance ,fuel injection, telescopic suspension, ACG starter motor, and an external fuel filler cap.
- 2023: Honda launched a H Smart variant of the existing 6th generation, which includes keyless entry with other smart features.
- 2025 Activa e: Following the trend, Activa entered the electric scooter space in India with their Honda Activa e.
Why is it so Popular?

The Activa's success isn't just built on those flashy features that we see today; rather, it's built on trust. Over the years, it has earned a reputation for being that one scooter you can depend on, no matter what. Its smooth and refined engine, butter-like CVT, and robust build quality have made it the go-to choice for riders who simply want something that just works, day after day, year after year. Add to that Honda's extensive service network, easy availability of parts, and excellent resale value, and you begin to see why the Activa is not just a scooter, but a default choice for millions. It's that simple formula, no-nonsense engineering, consistent reliability, and fuss-free ownership, that keeps people coming back. In fact, after using my Activa 3G for nearly a decade, I recently upgraded to the latest model without a second thought.
