Mini Countryman C

Mini Countryman C will be the most affordable iteration of this SUV as this is a standard version with a FWD setup, with a twin-turbo petrol and being locally assembled in India. Launch is slated to happen in 2-3 weeks, and we expect it to start between Rs 50-53 lakh (ex-showroom), lower than even electric powertrain.
From a features and design point of view, this model will be similar to what weve seen earlier - a circular main screen that functions as both the infotainment system and the driver's display, a two-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, and a central toggle that works as the gear selector.

Measuring around 4.4 meters in length, with a wheelbase of approximately 2.6 meters, the added dimensions translate into better cabin space, making it more practical for everyday family use. Also, the 19-inch alloy wheels makes the car look regal.
Engine & Performance
On the official Mini India page, it is specified that the Countryman C will get a twin-turbo petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DCT, which BMW refers to as a Steptronic automatic.

Now, we expect it to be offered with the familiar 1.5L three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, also seen in the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, producing around 156hp and 230Nm. However, there is also a strong possibility of the larger 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit - the same engine used in the Mini Cooper - delivering 204PS and 300Nm of torque. Between the two, the 2.0L engine seems like the more suitable choice, especially considering the Countryman's larger footprint and added weight. It would not only offer better performance but also make highway driving and overtaking more effortless, aligning well with the premium positioning of the SUV.
If Mini does opt for the smaller 1.5L unit, it will likely focus on efficiency and accessibility, helping keep the entry price competitive. However, for buyers seeking a more engaging and capable drive, the 2.0L turbo-petrol would clearly be the more compelling option.

Verdict
The Countryman C looks like a promising entry point into Minis SUV lineup, especially with local assembly helping pricing. However, its overall appeal will largely depend on the engine choice - while the 1.5L unit may keep it accessible, the 2.0L turbo-petrol would better suit its size and premium positioning. Either way, it shapes up to be a practical yet fun-to-drive Mini, provided the powertrain matches expectations.
