Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the top seller in its class of premium hatchbacks leaving rivals like i20, Tata Altroz, and its twin, the Toyota Glanza behind with its easy-to-maintain nature and the combination of practical modern tech and a no-nonsense petrol engine that churns out a good fuel economy as well. Starting at Rs 6.66 lakhs ex-showroom, it offers a good value for money offering you a very well-balanced hatchback that scores well in almost all the areas. However, a crash test rating is awaited to assess how stable is the body shell when under impact. Another reason for its unmatched success is the deep market penetration of Maruti with its solid presence even in tier-3 cities.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno Latest Update
Last Updated on 28th Apr'25: The Baleno remains one of the top-selling premium hatchbacks in the Indian market. Although the brand has not made any recent changes to the Baleno, it has updated the Grand Vitara and a few other models with 6 airbags as standard. The brand is planning to make 6 airbags standard across all its models, aligning with the government's push towards safety and making 6-airbags standard in all cars sold in the country.
While Maruti Baleno continues to be a solid seller in the premium hatchback category rivalling Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno witnesses a price hike of up to Rs. 9,000 from February 2025 but this quantum is only applicable for the petrol automatic trims. For other CNG and the petrol manual models, the hike is limited to just Rs. 4,000.

Should I buy the Baleno?
The Baleno is a practical family car with numerous features and an efficient engine. It's an excellent option with the availability of a CNG option. This makes it an attractive choice for budget-conscious buyers. However, it doesn't offer a diesel engine. But, if you prioritize a more enjoyable driving experience, you may prefer the Hyundai i20 or the Tata Altroz. This is especially true as their automatic transmissions are smoother.
- The exterior of the 2022 Baleno is a significant improvement compared to its predecessor. At the front, the car showcases a bold new grille and redesigned bumpers. It has fresh LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and LED fog lamps with chrome detailing. The air dams on the bumpers are now narrower.
