6 Airbags Now Standard

Both the Maruti Ertiga and Baleno will now come equipped with six airbags as standard across all variants. This includes dual front, side and curtain airbags, offering enhanced protection in case of a collision. Previously, only the top-of-the-line variants came with this level of safety features. This move aligns Maruti with the changing trend towards safety and strict norms. Earlier, they've equipped their arena lineup with six airbags as standard, which includes S-Presso, Alto, Wagon R, Swift, Dzire, Celerio and Ecco. This upgrade comes as a result of stricter vehicle safety norms. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already announced that by October 2025, all passenger vehicles must include six airbags as standard.
Price Hike Details

With the addition of six airbags, Maruti has revised the prices of these two models, which is obvious to accommodate the costs. The Ertiga sees a price hike of close to 1.4% while the Baleno prices have gone up by 0.5%. Moreover, this new pricing is effective from 16th July 2025. However, this hike may slightly affect the entry-level model's affordability, but the value addition in terms of safety is justified.
Powertrains

While the safety has been upgraded, both Ertiga and Baleno continue with their existing powertrain options. The Maruti Ertiga comes with a 1.5-litre K15C smart hybrid engine and a 1.5-litre K15C engine with CNG compatibility. It comes paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT unit. But the CNG version only gets a 5-speed manual option. On the other hand, the Baleno offers a 1.2-litre, K series engine along with CNG compatibility as well. It gets an option of a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT, while with CNG, it comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission only.

Verdict
Maruti Suzuki's decision to equip the Ertiga and Baleno with six airbags as standard is a timely and commendable move that puts safety front and centre. While the price hike is marginal, the added protection offers excellent value for everyday buyers. As the industry moves toward stricter safety norms, Maruti is ensuring its mass-market offerings don't fall behind.
