Expert Verdict on Jimny

Pros & Cons of Jimny
More practical family car with 5-door configuration as compared to Thar & Gurkha
The interior offers decent space for 4-adults and some small luggage
The retro-modern design looks good and the striking colour options make it a head-turner.
The lightweight and small dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre
The car offers many features. Such as a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless connectivity, LED headlamps, cruise control, and headlamp washer.
The 4X4 hardware is standard across all trims
The 1.5-litre NA K15B engine is fuel efficient. It also comes with the option of a smooth torque converter automatic transmission.
Many safety features are available. These include 6 airbags, traction control, hill-hold and hill descent control, 3-point seatbelts for all, brake-based limited-slip differential, and ESP.
The 1.5-liter NA petrol engine with 103 bhp power isn't as enjoyable to drive as the engines in the Thar and Gurkha.
The small size doesn't give it a tough off-roader look
The steering isn't light; it feels firm
The 5-speed manual transmission has a heavy clutch
The footwell area is a bit cramped; tall drivers might find it uncomfortable
Strictly a 4-seater; fitting a 5th passenger will be difficult
It lacks some features like LED DRLs, TPMS, and auto wipers, among others
There's limited storage inside the cabin, and the boot space is only suitable for small bags
Should I buy the Jimny?
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is an affordable off-roader. It has a reasonable cabin size, a good amount of features, and a retro-modern appearance. The Jimny is ideal for small cities because of its tiny size. It makes it easy to manoeuvre in urban environments. Nonetheless, if you want a diesel powertrain, a stronger engine, and a larger stance, you might want to consider the Mahindra Thar.

Latest Updates on Jimny
Maruti Baleno and Maruti Suzuki Jimny see modest price hikes effective from February 2025, along with other Nexa-branded models like Ciaz and XL6. Baleno’s petrol automatic trims increase by up to Rs 9,000, while its petrol manual and CNG variants go up by around Rs 4,000. The Jimny’s price rises by just about Rs 1,500 across all its variants, keeping its rugged appeal intact despite the small adjustment.
Maruti Suzuki starts replacing key brake components on every Jimny ever sold in India after owners report a steering vibration or death wobble issue when braking at higher speeds. The company issues a service bulletin and directly contacts Jimny owners to arrange free inspection and replacement of the affected parts, including the king-pin assembly and front brake components, under warranty to restore confidence in the off-roader’s driving dynamics.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is offered with discounts of up to Rs 3.3 lakh in July 2025 as part of periodic sales incentives. Discounts vary by variant, making the rugged off-roader significantly more attractive to buyers during the mid-year sales window. This promotional pricing is available across select dealerships and reflects broader efforts by Maruti Suzuki to improve showroom footfall for the Jimny amid competitive compact SUV demand.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny Thunder Edition is discontinued and removed from the lineup, with the model reverting to its original ex-showroom prices across all remaining trims. The special Thunder Edition had offered unique cosmetic touches and accessories, but Maruti Suzuki ends its run to simplify the Jimny range. Standard variants continue with regular feature sets and pricing after this update.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny Thunder Edition is launched in India with ex-showroom prices starting at Rs 10.74 lakh. This special edition adds unique exterior graphics, dual-tone accents, blacked-out alloy wheels, and Thunder-themed badges, giving the off-roader a distinctive look compared to standard trims. Mechanical specification and core features remain the same as the regular Jimny, while the Thunder Edition aims to attract buyers seeking a sportier visual appeal.
