Kawasaki Ninja 400 Design Updates
To begin with, the new Ninja 400 withdraws the front styling from the flagship Kawasaki Ninja H2. The dual-LED headlamps & the sharp front nose design are carried forward in a subtle way. It also gets fairing-mounted turn indicators & cowl-mounted rear view mirrors as well.

Apart from this, the new Ninja is now available in two new colour options. These include - Lime Green (KRT Edition) and Metallic Carbon Grey. These are the also same colour options that are available in the European market. These colour options are already seen over the newly launched Kawasaki Ninja 300 BS6.
While we wished that the update might bring a new instrument cluster; well, it did not. The BS6 Ninja 400 continues using the old semi-digital dial. Although we are not complaining that it is bad, it surely is now outdated. As we speak of this, competition rivals are already switching to high-tech digital clusters.
Engine & Specification Updates
Kawasaki has carried over the reliable & powerful 399cc, parallel-twin engine from the previous bike. This unit is a gem of an engine & surely has the potential to beat the segment higher bikes. It is now BS6 emission compliant & produces peak power of 44.38 hp & 37 Nm (1 Nm lower than BS4) torque.

The gearbox is also unchanged. It is a 6-speed constant mesh unit that comes equipped with a slipper-assist clutch function. Speaking of the brakes, the front uses a 310mm petal disc while the rear uses a 220mm petal disc.

Ninja 400 Rivals
When Kawasaki launched the BS4 Ninja 400, it had no direct rivals back then. The case continues with the BS6 update as well. India is not the market that is fond of investing Rs 5 Lakh on a 400cc when a few thousand more can get you a bigger bike.
In fact, the Kawasaki Z650 is priced very competitively to the Ninja 400; hence the sales remain low for the previous bike. We are afraid the same scenario might be seen on the new Ninja 400 as well.
Even if try to compete it; the apt rivals are - KTM RC390, TVS Apache RR 310, & the upcoming BMW G 310 RR.
