- 220 Street to share engine with Avenger 220 Cruise
Bajaj Auto appears to be reshuffling its Bajaj Avenger cruiser motorcycle lineup once again. The company has officially listed the Avenger 220 Street on its website with a 'Coming Soon' tag, while the smaller Avenger 160 Street has quietly disappeared from the portfolio, indicating that it has likely been discontinued. This move marks the comeback of the Avenger 220 Street after it was taken off sale a few years ago, and it also signals the end of the 160cc Avenger platform in India, at least for what it looks like at the moment. Bajaj Avenger 220 Street Returns to the Lineup

The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street was previously discontinued in 2020, but Bajaj now appears ready to reintroduce it alongside the Avenger 220 Cruise. The motorcycle had already surfaced in homologation documents earlier, hinting at a future launch, and the latest website update now confirms that the launch is imminent. Unlike the more chrome-heavy and touring-oriented 220 Cruise, the Street version follows a cleaner and sportier design philosophy. It gets shorter handlebars, blacked-out mechanical components, alloy wheels, and skips the tall windshield seen on the Cruise variant. Bajaj is has listed the motorcycle in two colours on its website, the Ebony Black and Cocktail Wine Red.
The Avenger 220 Street retains its fairly straightforward feature set, staying true to its affordable cruiser positioning. It gets a semi-digital instrument cluster, front 280mm disc brake, rear 130mm drum brake, sporty pillion backrest, and halogen lighting setup. Visually, the Street version distinguishes itself with a darker theme and minimal chrome usage, giving it a more urban and understated appearance compared to the Cruise model.

Engine and Hardware Details
The upcoming Avenger 220 Street will use the same 220cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine found in the Avenger 220 Cruise. This motor produces around 19 PS of power at 8,500 RPM and 17.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 RPM, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. This is a notable step up from the now-discontinued Avenger 160 Street, which used a 160.4cc engine producing around 15 PS and 13.7 Nm. The motorcycle rides on a 17-inch front wheel and a 15-inch rear wheel, wrapped in tubeless tyres. Other details include a 13-litre fuel tank, 169 mm ground clearance, and a low 737 mm seat height, maintaining the easy-going cruiser ergonomics the Avenger range is known for.
What This Means for the Avenger Range
With the Avenger 160 Street now removed from the lineup, Bajaj appears to be simplifying the Avenger portfolio around the more powerful 220cc platform. The range will now consist of two motorcycles, the touring-focused 220 Cruise and the relatively sportier 220 Street. This could also indicate Bajajs focus on positioning the Avenger as a more premium cruiser offering rather than competing in the smaller displacement commuter-cruiser segment.

Verdict
The return of the Bajaj Avenger 220 Street brings back a familiar cruiser with a more urban-focused personality, while the discontinuation of the 160 Street marks the end of the entry-level Avenger platform. By retaining the proven 220cc engine and adding a darker, cleaner design theme, Bajaj seems to be targeting riders who want relaxed cruiser ergonomics without the excessive chrome-heavy styling of the Cruise variant. If priced within reasonable limits, the Avenger 220 Street could once again become a go-to option for buyers looking for an accessible everyday cruiser with a bigger-engine feel
