Aprilia Softens GST Blow, Keeps Aprilia RS 457, Tuono 457 Prices Flat

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Aprilia India absorbs the increased tax burden from GST 2.0
  • Aprilia RS 457, Tuono 457 bikes prices remain constant
  • Both models share the same 457cc liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine

As new GST rates take effect on motorcycles above 350cc, most manufacturers have begun passing the burden on to customers through price hikes. Piaggio, however, has taken a different route with its Aprilia range in India. By fully absorbing the higher tax outgo, the company has ensured that both the Aprilia RS 457 and Tuono 457 remain at their existing prices, a move that not only shields buyers from unexpected hikes but also strengthens Aprilia's positioning in the hotly contested mid-capacity segment. Aprilia RS 457, Tuono 457- Unchanged Prices

Aprilia RS 457

Piaggio has opted to insulate Aprilia customers from this hike. The Tuono 457 continues at Rs. 3.95 lakh ex-showroom, while the Aprilia RS 457 holds steady at Rs. 4.35 lakh. The latter even sweetens the deal with a complimentary bi-directional quickshifter worth Rs. 20,500, effectively offsetting the Rs. 15,000 GST-linked impact. Both motorcycles are powered by a 457cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine delivering 47.6hp and 43.5Nm, paired with a six-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. Riders also benefit from a modern electronics package, including a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle, and multiple riding modes.

While other brands are either increasing prices or re-evaluating lineups, Piaggio's decision to maintain price parity could give Aprilia an edge ahead of the festive season. For prospective buyers, it signals stability and confidence, two qualities that often tip the scales in premium purchase decisions. In a segment where rivals like KTM, Kawasaki, and Royal Enfield are constantly jostling for dominance, absorbing costs internally may also help Aprilia win over riders who were undecided amid the shifting tax landscape.

GST Changes & Their Impact

Following the 56th GST Council meeting earlier this month, the tax on two-wheelers exceeding 350cc was raised to 40%. This is a steep jump from the earlier 31% (28% + 3% cess), bringing these motorcycles into the same tax bracket as luxury SUVs. While this restructuring simplified the system, it came as a blow to enthusiasts shopping in the premium motorcycle category, where affordability already sits on a fine edge.

Verdict

Piaggio's choice to hold prices for the Aprilia RS 457 and Tuono 457, despite a sharp GST hike, is more than just a customer-friendly gesture; it's a strategic play. By keeping the 457 twins competitively priced and even adding extra value, the brand has reinforced its commitment to Indian buyers. Whether this stance remains sustainable in the long run will depend on future regulatory tweaks, but for now, enthusiasts eyeing an Aprilia have little reason to hesitate.
