The Jeep brand celebrates the sale of its five millionth Wrangler, a milestone that aligns with the global debut of the 2024 Jeep Wrangler. Introduced at the 1986 Chicago Auto Show as a 1987 model, this iconic vehicle succeeded the Jeep CJ, upholding the legacy initiated by the original 1941 Willys MB.

Five Generations of the Jeep Wrangler
37 years ago, the very first Jeep Wrangler, known by its model code YJ, rolled off the production line at the American Motors Corporation factory. The YJ model achieved impressive sales, with 630,000 units sold between 1987 and 1995. It marked the beginning of a lineage that includes the TJ in 1996, the JK in 2006, and the JL in 2017, with each new generation building upon the storied history of the Wrangler by combining unrivaled off-road capability with the authentic Jeep design.
From the initial Wrangler YJ, which debuted as a two-door model with two engine choices a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a 4.2-liter inline-six each subsequent iteration of the Wrangler has aimed to enhance comfort for everyday use, while retaining its status as the world's most off-road capable and iconic SUV.
On the occasion of the five millionth unit sale, Jim Morrison, Senior Vice President and head of Jeep brand North America said, "With five million Wranglers sold, the Jeep brand continues to grow fueled by the unwavering passion of the Jeep global community.
