Skoda Auto India will bring the Superb back in 2027, in its fourth-generation form, and with a diesel engine, according to strong automotive sources. Skoda Superb Diesel Engine and Specifications
The Superb's return to India comes with a genuine surprise: a diesel engine. Volkswagen Group pulled diesel out of India entirely in 2020, after the switch to BS6 emission norms, following the fallout from Dieselgate. Government messaging has also pushed the idea that diesel is on its way out, and most manufacturers now sell petrol only lineups in India. Against that backdrop, this move stands out.
The sedan will use a 2.0 litre TDI engine. It produces 148hp and 360Nm of torque, sent to the front wheels only. No other mass-market executive sedan sold in India currently offers a diesel option, so this could set it apart from rivals like the Toyota Camry, which relies on a petrol-ybrid setup.
Skoda Superb Diesel Price Explained
The car arrives in a run of just 100 units via CBU, which brings steep import duties. The outgoing third-generation Superb cost Rs 43.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The new fourth generation model is expected to cost around Rs 57-58 lakh (ex-showroom).
This isn't a volume car. It's a halo product, meant to reward existing Skoda fans and show what the brand can build. It joins the Octavia RS and Kodiaq RS as part of that same strategy. The high price is part of the appeal, not a barrier to it.

A CBU diesel flagship in tiny numbers isn't a volume play. It's a statement. Skoda gets to showcase engineering it can no longer sell at scale in India, while giving loyal buyers something rivals don't offer. The Camry has no diesel option. Neither does anything else in this segment. That gap is exactly where Skoda seems to be positioning the Superb.
