Should I buy the Celerio?
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is a great family hatchback. It has great comfort, a nice feel, and good features. Though it has a robust build it could have been improved seeing the competition in the segment. It has good comfortable seats on offer and the frugal petrol engine on offer has good fuel efficiency as well. If you wish to look for another option, then you might consider the Hyundai Grand I10 Nios, Tata Tiago, or the Swift in the segment.
- The design of the Celerio is quite appealing over its predecessor. The subtle presence of chrome in the front enhances the premium appearance. The halogen setup for the headlights gives a basic treatment and has a decent throw at night. The competition offers a better setup for the headlights. The black theme on the bumper helps to reduce the visual bulk and gives a good face.
- Coming to the side, it has 15” alloy wheels in the ZXI+ variant, and the lower variants have 14” steel wheels with wheel covers. It has some cuts and creases that enhance the premium aesthetics. The door handles are now old-schooled but get request buttons for the passive entry.
- At the rear, it has a similar design to that of the front. The taillamps are halogen units but it has a similar design to the headlights. The rear is plain and basic and has decent boot space for your luggage. Overall, it has simple style. It stays simple to keep down the cost of the vehicle.
- As we step inside the Celerio, the interiors are all-new fresh, and have a simplistic layout. The space is well managed and the cabin practicality is on to the mark. The fit-finish quality of the dashboard is decent. There are many hard plastics present.
- The car has some quirky button placement. For example, the front power window controls are in the dashboard's center console. They are with the car lock/unlock button.
- The steering wheel is the same unit as the Wagon R. The 9” Smartplay infotainment system is slick to use. It has wired connectivity for Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The dashboard is neat with silver accents. The manual air conditioning could have been updated to automatic control.
- The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has the same petrol engine as the S-Presso, Wagon R, and Alto K10. It is the same 1.0 L K10C inline 3-cylinder petrol engine that has powered Maruti Suzuki vehicles for more than a decade.
- Talking about the specifications, this 1L motor churns out 68 BHP and 96 Nm of peak torque. This motor is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an AMT transmission.
- This motor comes with a CNG option as well which produces 54 BHP of output and 72 Nm of torque. This configuration is extremely fuel-efficient and has an efficiency of approximately 30-32 km/KG.
- The motor is decently refined and has a decent grunt on offer. It is not meant for high speeds and low-speed rides are pretty comfortable. The engine has some vibrations and noise that get filtered in the cabin.
- The petrol engine has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26 km/L. In the city, it will get about 22-24 km/L, depending on driving conditions.
Celerio engine specifications:
| Transmission | Manual & Automatic (AGS) |
| Mileage | 34.43 |
| Engine | 998 cc |
| Power | 67.56 bhp @ 5600 rpm |
| Torque | 89 Nm @ 3500 rpm |
| Drive Train | FWD |

- Coming to seating comfort the Maruti Suzuki Celerio offers a comfortable space to be in. It has a good seat cushioning in the front but the fixed headrests take away the joy.
- The rear seats offer good space. There is great knee room, and leg room on offer and the cabin is decently wide for 3 passengers. However, it could have been added with rear AC vents to add more comfort for the rear passengers.
- The suspension of the Celerio is tuned on the softer side. It absorbs bumps and potholes very well but there is some body roll that is felt on corners. At high speeds, the ride becomes a bit bouncy, and bad roads and expansion joints filter inside the cabin.
- The steering wheel is very light and feels vague at times. It could have been added with more weight to provide more stability and feedback. The wheels are also a bit slim in profile and upgrading them would increase the stability.
