BMW 5 Series First Look Review - The Athletic Sedan

The BMW 5 Series is one of the most desirable sedans we have in India. Across all its generation changes, the athletic nature of the 5 Series has been intact. If you want luxury and performance in a single package, the 5 Series is a globally acclaimed package in that regard. Recently, BMW gave a midlife facelift to the 5 Series and it will arrive in India pretty soon. Till then, we tell you everything about the BMW 5 Series in its first look review.

BMW 5 Series First Look Review - Exterior

BMW 5 Series Review exteriors

The BMW 5 Series still follow its roots in terms of design. The front profile is bold with the kidney grille in place flanked with LED headlights. The new facelifted model gets a different DRL pattern but I still prefer the rounded DRLs. The M-sport models of the 5 Series also get sporty bumpers and M-sport alloy wheels.

The window line of the 5 Series gets a thick chrome slab running to the back and a strong shoulder line which meets with the taillamps. Some noteworthy features like LED fog lamps, headlamp washers and active kidney grille are also offered. We also get small air ducts behind the front wheels, just to add a pinch of sportiness. Overall, the 5 Series sports a minimalist design with some sporty inserts.

BMW 5 Series First Look Review - Interiors

The interiors of the 5 Series are exquisite and again, very minimalist. The layout is typical BMW, centre dash is tilted towards the driver, just to rind that you are driving a sporty sedan. With a recent update, the 5 Series also gets the new digital driver's display which changes according to the mode you are in. BMW offers two choices of sumptuous upholstery - Nappa Ivory White and Nappa Mokka leather. The latter one comes with a dark interior wrapped in Mokka leather and contrast stitching. The rear seats also get sunblinds and the rear shield sunblind can be electrically operated.

Talking about the features of the 5 Series, which are in abundance, we get BMW gesture controls, four-zone climate control, ambient lighting, electric rear sunblinds, electric sunroof, multifunction steering wheel, BMW live cockpit, electric front seats with lumbar support, drive modes, remote control parking, BMW iDrive with Apple Car Play, wireless charging, multiple airbags and a host of safety nannies to cosset you.

BMW 5 Series First Look Review - Engines and Performance

The BMW 5 Series gets three engine options in the Indian market - 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel and 3.0-litre inline-6 diesel. BMW segregates the engine choices in Sport, Luxury line and M-sport models. The one we are talking about is the 530d M-sport. The 530d is powered by a 3.0L inline-6 diesel which produces 265hp and a colossal 620 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and the power goes to the rear wheels. Unlike the 520d, the 530d offers launch control and it can do nought to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. The numbers are truly impressive and the 530d is the best engine of the 5 Series in India.
