Tesla Model Y vs Kia EV6 - Price

Tesla Model Y has been launched in India with two variants - Rear Wheel Drive and Long Range Rear Wheel Drive. The first one costs Rs 59.89 lakh and the latter one Rs 67.89 lakh ex-showroom. And as of now, this car can only be registered in three cities - Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram. Talking about Kia EV6, it is available with just one trim - GT Line AWD - at Rs 65.96 lakh ex-showroom. Here, Kia only offers one trim which is expensive, but it comes with an AWD system, which isn't there even in the top variant of Model Y.
Tesla Model Y vs Kia EV6 - Range
As of now, we don't know the real world ARAI range of Model Y, as the company just started their operations here, nor the battery specifications as well power figures. What we have is WLTP range of two variants, and they're impressive. So, let's just put the numbers, which are available on Tesla.com -
Rear Wheel Drive - 500 km
Long Range - 622 km
As per Tesla's official site, the rear-wheel drive variant can gain up to 238 km of range in just 15 minutes using a 175 kW Supercharger. The top-spec Long Range variant, on the other hand, can add up to 267 km in the same time with a 250 kW Supercharger. That said, Tesla will first need to install such high-capacity charging stations across India, as the country currently lacks this infrastructure.

Kia EV6, is equipped with 84 kWh battery pack, which produces 325 ps and 605 Nm of torque, sending power to all four wheels. Additionally, the MIDC range is 663 km, and with a 350 kW fast charger, it can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
GT Line AWD - 663 km
Tesla Model Y vs Kia EV6 - Design

The way they look can really influence your buying decision, as they represent the future of automotive designs and are setting the base for newer cars to follow. Here, the EV6 stands out, as this luxurious EV falls into the compact crossover SUV category with a very sleek and sharp design, and upon seeing it on road - one will think of it as a spaceship, especially from the rear section, with the scooped-up trunk area imitating a coupe-like shape and those connected LED tail-lights.

The EV6's road presence is highly impactful, and most likely, the Model Y will have it too - considering it's a fastback SUV with a distinctive Tesla design that everyone has seen on the internet. Moreover, the fastback shape refers to a car that has a high stance, but the roofline slopes down smoothly, creating a resemblance to coupe SUVs. However, they have more height. These cars provide sedan-like driving dynamics but with SUV-like space.

Tesla Model Y vs Kia EV6 - Interior

The Model Y interior is the epitome of minimalistic design languages, as everything is flat out - simple and all the operations happen via 15.4 Inch touchscreen in the middle. To make little easy for the driver, Tesla provides toggle switches at steering wheel. Rest all functions are executed via the giant screen. It's a five seater car, with a panoramic glass roof, and comes with two interior upholstery options: Black and White.
For rear passengers, Tesla provides a 8 Inch of screen which comes with functions like climate control and media, and is Bluetooth-enabled for seamless device connectivity. This screen adds to the premium in-cabin experience, especially for rear occupants. Passengers will have the option of accessing Netflix, YouTube, and other platforms through Tesla theater, and dive into gaming with Arcade. Lastly, the total cargo area in this car is 2,138 litres - including the trunk, frunk, and additional space after folding the rear seats.

On the other hand, the Kia EV6's interior is a beautiful concoction of technology and luxury. It's similar to any other modern car, with special touches such as a double D-cut Kia steering wheel and a panoramic display with two 12.3-inch screens - consisting of an infotainment system and a multi-information display. Moreover, the boot space of this car is 520 L, and after folding down the seats, it expands to 1,300 L.

Verdict
This comparison is based out of the information available on the respective sites of both these cars. We at 91Wheels haven't driven these, so can't comment on how they feel in flesh. That said, the EV6 on paper appears to be a more well-rounded package despite in terms of overall features. On the other hand, Model Y is so new for India, that commenting anything - even positive or negative - without checking it in flesh is doing injustice to the automotive journalism. So, stay tuned to know our first-hand experience.
