Tesla Model Y

This fastback SUV is launched with two variants - Rear Wheel Drive which costs Rs 59.89 lakh and Long Range Rear Wheel Drive at Rs 67.89 lakh. Interested customers can book it from today itself with a Rs 22,000 token amount and had to pay Rs 3 lakh within seven days, and all of this is non-refundable.

Talking about crucial specifications, the Rear Wheel Drive or the base trim has a 500 km WLTP range on offer, and it can do 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. The second Long Range trim has a claimed WLTP range of 622 km, while it's marginally faster - doing 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. That said, both of these trims have the same top speed of 201 km/h. To add more, at the moment, there is no information about the battery pack it's carrying - but we know that these variants have a single motor setup.

The official site also mentions that customers can buy the full self-driving setup at an additional cost of Rs 6 lakh, which will come with future updates. So, this is the mode that enables the Model Y to drive all on its own.

As per Tesla's official site, the rear-wheel drive variant can gain up to 238 km of range in just 15 minutes using a 175 kW Supercharger. The top-spec Long Range variant, on the other hand, can add up to 267 km in the same time with a 250 kW Supercharger. That said, Tesla will first need to install such high-capacity charging stations across India, as the country currently lacks this infrastructure.

Colour Option

Stealth Grey

Another extra-cost thing about Model Y - it's available in six colour options, where the base Stealth Grey doesn't cost any extra amount, but the rest do. So, without making it any more perplexing, let's check the extra prices on these.

  • Stealth Grey (Included)
  • Pearl White Multi-Coat (Rs 95,000)
  • Diamond Black (Rs 95,000)
  • Glacier Blue (Rs 1,25,000)
  • Quicksilver (Rs 1,85,000)
  • Ultra Red (Rs 1,85,000)

Lastly, this electric fastback SUV is available for registration in three locations - Delhi, Gurugram, and Mumbai. And today, Tesla's first-ever showroom is also inaugurating in Mumbai BKC. Here is what it would cost on-road in Mumbai:

Rear Wheel Drive - Rs 61,06,690

Features

Features on both variants of Tesla Model Y are same, as per the official site. To begin with, it gets a 15.4-inch front-row touchscreen, which serves as the main control panel. It displays everything about the car and also functions as the infotainment system. For the second row, Tesla has installed an 8-inch touchscreen between the front row seats, replacing the usual rear AC vents. That said, the front seats come with power recline, heating, and ventilation functions, while the rear seats also get power-folding and heating functions.

Moreover, it comes with 9 speakers, footwell and door pocket ambient lighting, tinted safety glass, 8 cameras, and an electric tailgate. In a nutshell, this is a pretty loaded tech car, as it should be.

Verdict

Well, nobody was expecting it to happen so suddenly, but Tesla doesn't believe in advertising - their biggest promotion is their CEO himself, Elon Musk. This is the first-ever product from Tesla in India, and in the future, we might see the Model 3 and Model S coming as well. But for now, the electric segment is definitely going to get more exciting and cut-throat, as this giant automaker has officially stepped onto Indian soil.
