The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is one of the most affordable off-road vehicles in India. The Jimny has strong 4X4 hardware to handle any type of road. It also has a combination of modern features and a retro-modern appearance. Two variations of the Jimny are available to meet the needs of various customer types. All things considered, it has a useful cabin that comes with a retro-modern style and strong off-road capabilities.

Pros & Cons of Maruti Suzuki Jimny

• What we admire in this car

  • More practical family car with 5-door configuration as compared to Thar & Gurkha
  • The interior offers decent space for 4-adults and some small luggage
  • The retro-modern design looks good and the striking colour options make it a head-turner.
  • The lightweight and small dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre
  • The car offers many features. Such as a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless connectivity, LED headlamps, cruise control, and headlamp washer.
  • The 4X4 hardware is standard across all trims
  • The 1.5-litre NA K15B engine is fuel efficient. It also comes with the option of a smooth torque converter automatic transmission.
  • Many safety features are available. These include 6 airbags, traction control, hill-hold and hill descent control, 3-point seatbelts for all, brake-based limited-slip differential, and ESP.

• What could have been better

  • The 1.5-liter NA petrol engine with 103 bhp power isn't as enjoyable to drive as the engines in the Thar and Gurkha.
  • The small size doesn't give it a tough off-roader look
  • The steering isn't light; it feels firm
  • The 5-speed manual transmission has a heavy clutch
  • The footwell area is a bit cramped; tall drivers might find it uncomfortable
  • Strictly a 4-seater; fitting a 5th passenger will be difficult
  • It lacks some features like LED DRLs, TPMS, and auto wipers, among others
  • There's limited storage inside the cabin, and the boot space is only suitable for small bags

Retro-Modern Looks Keeping The Old School Charm 4

• The Maruti Suzuki Jimny offers a retro look with modern touches. It follows the same design as the global Jimny. However, it has been adapted for Indian customers. This includes adding a second row and two extra doors.
• The overall design is boxy and has a classic look, reminiscent of the iconic Gypsy from Maruti. The Jimny comes with modern features like LED projector headlights and headlight washers. The body panels of the Jimny resemble a typical old-school SUV. They have minimal curves and aerodynamics.

Practical Interior Space With Modern Touch & Features 4

• The inside of the Jimny looks a lot like the global model and takes inspiration from the iconic Gypsy. For instance, the dual-pod instrument console has red and black backlights. It resembles the Gypsy. There's also a sturdy grab handle on the dashboard, just like in the Gypsy. Maruti has added a leather-wrapped steering wheel to give it a modern touch. The steering wheel is similar to other Nexa models.
• It comes with features like a large touchscreen. It has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Additionally, it has a rear-view camera and automatic climate control.
• However, the cabin lacks width and space. There aren't many places to store your things, like wallets and water bottles. The rear bench space is narrow, and the seat recline is quite upright.

Offers Good Safety Features Making It Safer For Occupants 3.5

• Maruti has ensured that the Jimny is a robust SUV. It can withstand severe accidents and keep its occupants safe. As a result, it boasts an extensive and satisfying list of features.
• The safety net includes 6 airbags. It also has EBD with ABS, Hill Descent Control, Hill-Hold Control, Traction Control System, and ISOFIX child seats. Moreover, the braking system in the Jimny is precise. We observed that it performs well in bringing the vehicle to a stop, even with four adults and luggage on board.
• Additionally, the build quality of the interiors and the solid thud of the doors instil a strong sense of safety and robust construction.

Tried & Tested Global K15B Engine 4

• The Jimny in India has the same engine as the one used globally. It runs on the reliable 1.5-litre K15-B engine. This engine produces a maximum power of 102 bhp and a peak torque of 136 Nm. You can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. It can power either the rear wheels or all four wheels.
• The Jimny has a lightweight ladder-frame chassis. It performs well on regular roads and off-road terrain. The gear ratios are finely tuned. With the Suzuki AllGrip Pro+, driving the Jimny over rocks and steep slopes becomes quite easy.
• While this engine can provide decent efficiency, don't anticipate a particularly enjoyable experience. At times, this lower-powered engine may exhibit underwhelming performance on highways.

The Suspension Can Easily Take All The City Bumps 4

• The Jimny SUV is like a mountain goat for off-road fans around the world. Its small size and good suspension have made it a hit globally. The Indian version of the Jimny has leaf spring suspension both at the front and rear. However, when we took it for a test drive, we discovered that it has the best suspension and ride quality in its category right now. 
• Handling the Jimny is not intimidating at all. The steering doesn't give much feedback. There's no play for small movements when driving straight. Also, its turning radius is quite large, and it takes some effort to manoeuvre through traffic.
