Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
The Ciaz is the oldest car in the C segment sedan market and also the lowest selling one. It is primarily witnessing sales via various government departments, being used as a chauffeur driven car for officials. It continues to come with the older K15 1.5-litre petrol engine that offers a good mix of performance and efficiency. However, the 4-speed automatic isn't too efficient for highway runs. The Ciaz continues to offer excellent cabin space along with a large boot. However, an older design and lack of features is keeping it away from private buyers.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Detailed Review
Although, it's been a long time since Maruti Suzuki launched the Ciaz in the Indian market; its design and styling still remain one of its best selling points. The elegant looks are neatly compiled with a sharp design that caters to buyers who are looking for a large C-segment family sedan. The Maruti Ciaz always had a stunning look from the outside. The facelift has given a new style to the vehicle and it has a new and attractive grille with chrome extensions, better than the previous model. The sedan is equipped with LED Headlamps, LED DRL’s and a redesigned bumper which comes along with LED Fog lamps. To give the car a new look, Maruti has added 16-inch alloy wheels that have a potent finish. It has decent-sized bonnet pillars that are fairly upright. It looks quite purposeful from the exterior appearance. Two washers are added to the front bonnet. In the alpha variant, a gunmetal finish with multi-spoke wheels is added. The doors are designed with chrome handles as well and led indicators are added near the rear-view mirrors. The tailgate lights are added with a chrome finish on the rear side. This feature is only available on the alpha variant. The tank is placed on the left side of the vehicle. The smart hybrid system is available on all variants from the base models to the alpha models. The LED mount stop lamp and defogger are added to the rear side as well. Four parking sensors are equipped near the tailgate lights which is a standard feature. Reflectors are added along with chrome extensions which gives the vehicle a stunning look.
Summary
Overall, it has a decent look with elegant styling and large dimensions that give it a good street presence.
The interiors of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz are very well put. The overall cabin quality and fit & finish are one of the best in the segment rivals. The cabin of the Maruti Ciaz has a very classy look. There is a fine finish near the glove compartment section which gives it a bold look. In terms of features, this vehicle is remarkable. They have a 7-inch touch screen system that offers Apple Play and Android Auto. It helps the user to pass time while being stuck in traffic jams. The seating is quite comfortable and there is good support for one’s lower back. Adjustable headrests are added as well. There is some storage space below the touch screen system and ventilation controls to keep one’s essentials.
All 4 doors get usable pockets with bottle holders and there is plenty of space at the base of the dashboard as well. There is ample room space for rear-seat passengers and legroom is more than sufficient. The headroom is pretty extensive as well. Three passengers can be conveniently accommodated on the rear side. There is a foldable armrest in the middle with a couple of beverage holders. The boot capacity of the Ciaz is 510 Litres. A digital odometer display is added along with a digital clock. The glove compartment is quite spacious to keep one’s essentials. There are 4 integrated speakers, 2 each on the front and rear side which provides good sound quality. Some of the additional features include System with Traffic Updates (via Smartplay Studio App), AHA Platform (via Smartplay Studio App), 2 Tweeters and Remote Control.
Summary
The interior of the vehicle has a very classy look with a fine fit and finish. While there are enough features on offer, we would have preferred some additional goodies like a sunroof and wireless smartphone charger.
Maruti Suzuki has always been loved by the customers for equipping its cars with powerful and one of the most refined powertrains. The Ciaz is one of the most refined products from the company, especially with its petrol engine which is very fuel-efficient as well. The Maruti Ciaz comes with a sufficiently powerful 1.5-litre petrol engine that offers a good mix of performance and mileage. The engine is smooth and highly refined. However, it’s still no match to what the Honda City’s 1.5-litre engine offers. That said, most drivers won’t have any complaints from this motor under normal usage. Also, the Ciaz is quite frugal and is easily more fuel-efficient than arch rivals Hyundai Verna and Honda City. The mild-hybrid system in the vehicle plays a significant role in the fuel economy and the small electric motor also aids torque in traffic conditions. The overall performance is good and it’s very comfortable to ride on long roads. It has a great pickup, especially in the 1st and 2nd gear.
Summary
The Maruti Ciaz is not the most powerful car in its segment but definitely offers a good mix of performance and high fuel efficiency.
The ride quality of Ciaz is one of the most subtle and stable in its segment. The low-speed bumps and undulations are easily eaten up by the well-tuned suspension. Additionally, the handling is also on the neutral side and provides a consistent confidence to the driver behind the steering wheel. The Maruti Ciaz gets MacPherson Strut and Torsion Beam suspension system at the front and the rear, respectively. This setup provides a pretty comfortable ride experience for all users, be it in the front seat or the rear. The car can easily keep everyone comfortable while going over speed breakers or on rough roads. The ride quality is remarkable and the Ciaz can be driven conveniently on long routes. Also, the driver gets a good view of the surroundings, which, along with the light steering, helps him easily make his way through crowded streets. Overall, it offers a smooth, soothing, and comfortable ride.
The handling, however, won’t impress the enthusiasts. This is because the steering offers no feedback and artificially gains weight as the speeds rise. It’s still better than the totally lifeless steering of the earlier model but it’s definitely not a steering that will delight the driving enthusiasts. Thankfully, the brakes are quite powerful. The car comes with ventilated disc brakes at front and drum brakes at the rear.
Summary
The Maruti Ciaz offers the best ride quality in the segment. However, it's quite dull to drive due to the lifeless steering.
Maruti Suzuki cars have been questioned from a long time about the safety aspect. The Ciaz caters to buyers who prefer safe cars for themselves. Recently tested, the Thai-spec Suzuki Ciaz has been tested by ANCAP where it has received a 4-Star rating for protection of adult occupants. With the belief that the India-spec model won’t be too different, it won’t be wrong to say that it is certainly among the safer cars on sale in the country. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is also equipped with dual front airbags, ABS, and traction control. Additionally, you can opt for the Suzuki Connect to benefit from features like geo-fencing and a live location tracker. This app can also be used to monitor the vehicle's health status.
Summary
The Maruti Ciaz is a sufficiently well-built car that offers the kind of safety features you would expect from a model in this price bracket.

Latest Updates on Ciaz
Maruti Suzuki officially discontinues the Ciaz in India, marking the end of the mid-size sedan’s production run. The brand cites evolving customer preferences and shifting focus toward SUVs and electrified vehicles as key reasons for ending Ciaz sales. Remaining stock is being cleared through dealerships, and after-sales support continues for existing owners. The Ciaz retires after years of service in the sedan segment, leaving Maruti Suzuki’s lineup without a traditional three-box car in this space.
The 2022 Maruti Ciaz is set to be updated with a 1.5-litre DualJet petrol engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission, replacing the earlier powertrain setup in India. The revised Ciaz aims to offer better fuel efficiency and smoother performance, while retaining its sedan form and comfort-focused packaging. Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce the updated engine and gearbox combination soon to keep the Ciaz competitive against rivals in its segment.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz receives four new exterior colour options in India as part of a mid-cycle update, expanding the sedan’s palette and giving buyers more choice in personalization. These new colours join the existing range without any change to the Ciaz’s mechanicals, features or pricing, while the model continues to offer its comfortable cabin and efficient petrol powertrain.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz receives a price hike of up to Rs 11,000 in India, making the mid-size sedan slightly more expensive compared to its earlier pricing. The revision affects select trims and variants, while Ciaz’s feature set, engine and overall specification remain unchanged. Despite the modest increase, the Ciaz continues to compete in the mid-size sedan segment with its balanced offering of space, comfort and fuel efficiency.
The 2023 Maruti Ciaz is launched in India with a refreshed design and updated features, aiming to strengthen its presence in the mid-size sedan segment. The sedan comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech, paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox, and delivers improved fuel efficiency. The new Ciaz also gets updated exterior styling, refreshed front grille and LED lighting, along with an 8-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, making it a more competitive choice for family buyers in its category.
