Mahindra Bolero

| Review & Win

The Mahindra Bolero remains one of India’s most rugged and practical utility vehicles, built on a robust ladder-frame chassis with a clear focus on durability and load-carrying capacity. It is powered by the 1.5-litre mHawk75 diesel engine producing 75 bhp and 210 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Bolero caters well to semi-urban and rural buyers looking for functionality over flair. While it lacks modern driving dynamics and comfort, it excels in reliability, low maintenance, and tough-road readiness, staying true to its utilitarian roots.

The B8 variant is priced just under Rs 10 lakh, and it comes with a new Stealth Black paint scheme, which it hasn’t received in a long time. The new infotainment system, however, does not support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. If the colour and alloy rims are not a priority, you can save yourself the extra amount and opt for the B4 variant.

Expert Verdict on Bolero

Exterior4

Performance4

The Mahindra Bolero is a robust SUV designed to tackle tough terrains, making it popular in rural areas. With its practicality, seven seats, and a strong diesel engine with a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system, the Bolero provides reliable performance. Its main drawback is its lack of modern aesthetics and limited features.

Pros & Cons of Mahindra Bolero

  • What we admire in this car

    • Robust stance and rugged performance
    • The body-on-frame chassis is abuse-friendly
    • It offers practicality with 7 seats and tough build quality
    • It has proven its worth in the rural areas, tier 2 & tier 3 cities
    • The only SUV under Rs 10 lakh with a RWD drivetrain
    • The rigid leaf spring suspension at the back and coil springs at the front can take rough roads with ease
    • The 1.5-litre diesel engine is torquey and offers a decent performance for your daily work
  • What could have been better

    • It does not offer most of the modern features you get in other sub-4 meter cars
    • The plastic quality feels cheap and panel gaps are evident
    • It handles rough roads with ease but the ride quality on the tarmac is quite bumpy
    • The top model is priced over Rs 10 lakh which does not offer much value for money considering the features it gets

Should I buy the Bolero?

If you're looking for a robust SUV that can handle rough terrains easily, is durable, and comes with essential features along with a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system, then the Bolero is worth considering. However, if you prefer a more contemporary design, modern features, and a petrol engine, you might want to explore other sub-4 meter SUVs like Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, or Tata Nexon.

Big SUV Stance With Solid Build 4
  • The Bolero retains its iconic boxy silhouette, but it gets tweaks to make it look fresher. It gets a mildly redesigned grille with chrome slats, along with subtle tweaks to the headlamps, and it continues with a metal bumper up front. The top-end variant also gets fog lamps up front, and diamond-cut alloy rims. The rear spare wheel continues to be mounted on the tailgate, and the tail lamps have been given subtle tweaks as well.
  • In terms of size, the Bolero is 3995mm long, 1745mm wide, and 1880mm tall. With a wheelbase of 2680mm, it offers good ground clearance. The car can seat 7 people, but you need to fold the last row of seats to get more space in the trunk.

The Bolero competes with the Tata Nexon. The Nexon got an upgrade with more features and a modern look. It has both petrol and diesel engine choices and improved safety features compared to the Bolero. The Bolero stands out with its Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system, making it the only SUV in its class with this advantage over the Nexon. It's also more budget-friendly, and it's practical with seven seats

        Latest On Mahindra Bolero

Last Updated on 06th Oct '25:The Bolero receives yet another facelift, which sees the addition of a new B8 variant, some new features and a Stealth Black paint scheme to name a few. Mahindra also claims to have improved its ride and handling.

Mahindra has introduced the Bolero Bold Edition in India with subtle dealer-level cosmetic enhancements to bring it closer in appeal to the Bolero Neo Bold Edition. The changes include interior and exterior styling tweaks without any mechanical upgrades. Still powered by the mHawk75 1.5-litre diesel engine, the Bolero continues to deliver 75bhp and 210Nm. It features a basic but functional tech package including a Bluetooth-enabled music system, distance-to-empty readout, and central locking. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS, and reverse parking sensors, though it misses out on advanced tech like ESP or ADAS. The Bold Edition aims to freshen up the appeal of the rugged workhorse without altering its core DNA.
