Cars such as the Bolero, Bolero Neo, XUV 3XO, and the Thar RWD fall under the 18 percent tax slab, as they all fall under the sub-4m category. Buyers of the Bolero and the Bolero Neo get benefits of upto Rs 1.27 lakh. Similarly, the XUV 3XO petrol and diesel come with benefits of upto Rs 1.40 lakh and Rs 1.56 lakh respectively. The Thar RWD, by virtue of its length (3985mm) and the fact that it is also powered by a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine also falls under the new 18 percent tax slab, and therefore it receives benefits of upto Rs 1.35 lakh.

On the other hand, the Scorpio Classic, Scorpio N, XUV700, Thar 3-door 4x4 diesel, and the Thar Roxx fall under the 40 percent tax slab. The Thar 3-door 4x4 diesel and the Scorpio Classic will see price reductions of upto Rs 1.01 lakh, while the Scorpio N, Thar Roxx, and the XUV700 will get benefits of upto Rs 1.45 lakh, Rs 1.33 lakh, and Rs 1.43 lakh respectively.
Verdict
Given how popular the Thar, Thar Roxx, XUV700, the Scorpio and the XUV 3XO continue to be, the new GST reforms with the new tax slabs should certainly help those buyers looking to upgrade from a small car to something big, yet affordable and with off-roading chops.
