Yamaha FZ 25 vs FZS 25 : Differences in these 2020 BS6 Models

Yamaha is all set to reveal pricing for their 250cc offerings, the FZ 25 and the FZS 25. While the FZ 25 was launched in 2017, Yamaha is taking the BS6 opportunity to launch the fancier FZS 25 version as well. Yesterday we told you more about FZS 25 BS6 version and today we will quickly look at what makes it different than its sober sibling. Right then, let's get down to this Yamaha FZ 25 vs FZS 25 article right away...

Yamaha FZ 25 vs FZS 25

Yamaha FZ 25 vs FZS 25: Engines
Both the bikes will use the same 249cc engine that produces 20.8 PS of power and 20.1 Nm of torque. It has been fuel injected since 2017 but will now be BS6 compliant. Power and torque figures haven't changed and we are expecting the same for the fuel economy numbers too. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual 'box and thanks to shorter gearing, it is a blast to use in urban conditions. It also fairly smooth and Yamaha is known to make engines that last long.

Yamaha FZ 25 vs FZS 25: Design
This is where the 'S' version stands out from the normal one. For starters, it gets a longer visor upfront which gives it extra mass and muscle. This also plays a functional role by deflecting air away from the rider's face. We are sure this will be helpful during touring at higher speeds. The next change are the handguards which not only look cool but again, have a functional role. They help keep away wind and muck from the rider's hands and can be useful when riding in winter months. The FZS models also get a different colour for wheels. While the Patina Green and Dark Matt Blue come with golden wheels, the White Vermillion model gets black wheels with a red strip. The regular FZ 25 in the meantime comes with normal wheels. Likewise, the S also comes in three shades as compared to two for the FZ 25 model.

Yamaha FZ 25 vs FZS 25: Features
Both models are similar in this aspect. A big addition is the new LED headlight and LED day time running lights. This addition makes the front end look very purposeful! The bikes get an LCD console that also displays the average fuel economy figure. The under cowling, below the engine, looks cool and helps keep away dirt and mud from this area. There is also a side stand cut off switch which means the engine will cut off when the rider pulls down the stand. The motor will not start either with the stand down. The bikes also come with dual channel ABS as standard. Weight is kept low and this helps improve the power to weight ratio. While the FZ 25 weighs 153 kgs, the S is a kilogram heavier.

Yamaha FZ 25 vs FZS 25: Pricing
The FZ 25 was launched at Rs 1.19 lakh (ex-showroom) and the same was hiked over the years. It's fair to assume a further hike of about 5-7k given the BS6 update and the new front end. So while the FZ 25 will carry a sticker price of over Rs 1.3-1.4 lakh, the FZS will be closer to about Rs 1.5 lakh given the add-ons. It will still offer more value over homegrown Bajaj Dominar 250 that carries a sticker price of Rs 1.6 lakh.

We believe Yamaha is waiting for the lockdown to lift and once it happens, these new 2020 BS6 models will hit the showrooms. The brochure is up on the website and the only thing that remains to be seen is the pricing. Fingers crossed!
