Ashok Leyland and Apollo Tyres have launched a COVID-19 helpline called the 'Saarthi' specifically to support the trucking community.
The trucking community has been the backbone of the transportation sector in India however, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases and the lockdowns, the community has been facing a tough time providing their families with three square meals.
Few small scale logistic businesses and fleet owners are also on the verge of extinction due to a sudden surge of the covid-19 pandemic in the country. Truckers who depended on these logistic firms are now in the phase of devastation. The pandemic lockdowns have stopped them from receiving transport orders which is their livelihood. Many drivers and fleet owners are also facing the problem of not having the means to maintain their fleets which they depend on for making a meagre income.
But, more importantly, truckers and their families who are affected or prone to the covid-19 virus are facing difficulties in attaining doctor appointments, medical prescription and vaccination to be immune from the virus.
In response to the toughening situation, Ashok Leyland and Apollo Tyres have launched a COVID-19 helpline called the 'Saarthi' specifically for the trucking community. The purpose of this helpline is to help truck drivers, helpers and their family members. The Saarthi COVID helpline will provide Covid-19 related consultation, information on vaccination and non-COVID related enquiries.

It has been mentioned that the Saarthi will be made available all over India. However, as of now, its service is available only in 5 languages, ie. Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Assamese.
Truckers can avail services aforementioned by calling on 7028105333 anytime between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM from Monday to Saturday.
It was announced by Ashok Leyland and Apollo Tyres that persons from the community who have tested COVID positive and are in-home quarantine will get an opportunity to consult a doctor by simply requesting for one on the helpline. Also, it was stated that non-covid patients could get doctors consultation and prescription as a part of this initiative.

The beneficiaries would also get guidance regarding vaccination and Saarthi will guide members of this community on how to register on COWIN and Arogya Setu portal. In addition to this, guidance on how to schedule an appointment for getting the vaccination and downloading the certificate post the scheduled vaccination will be provided. Further medical assistance post-vaccination can also be availed as per the press release.
