Also, with a massive population of more than 135 Crores, the call for mobility solutions is ever-increasing and so we have a lot of new products coming up sporadically. The mass-market motorcycle segment of the country is always dominated by the Indian two-wheeler manufacturers but when it comes to the quarter-litre segment, this class is always dominated by the Japanese automakers. Although, we do have non-Japanese brands and some Indian bikemakers too, its the Japanese that reigns over all others. So, in this article, we will be doing a mega quarter-litre BS6 spec-comparo of 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 vs Suzuki Gixxer 250 vs KTM Duke 250 vs Bajaj Dominar 250.

FZ 25 BS6 vs Gixxer 250 vs Duke 250 vs Dominar 250 - Looks and Colours

The 2020 FZ 25 BS6 is the latest offering in this segment. The motorcycle hasn't been launched yet but Yamaha has revealed the official images and specs of it. The 2020 FZ 25 gets subtle cosmetic updates over its predecessor and it now gets an all-LED projector headlamp, underbelly cowl, sharp tank extensions and a silver-coloured muffler on the exhaust. The FZ 25 will be offered in two colour variants Metallic Black and Racing Blue. Moreover, Yamaha will also launch the FZS 25 that gets knuckle guards, gold-painted alloys and will be offered in Dark Cyan, Dark Blue and Metallic White shades.

Suzuki Motorcycles re-entered the quarter-litre segment in India just last year with the naked offering Gixxer 250 and its fully-faired derivative Gixxer SF 250. The Gixxer 250 is a good looking motorcycle and the budding travellers love it for its touring capabilities. It gets a sharp design with tank extensions and the front is dominated by a fully-LED headlight. It also gets a LED taillamp and is available in two colour schemes - Metallic Matte Silver and Metallic Matte Black.

KTM India recently updated its entire portfolio in India and all the motorcycles now comply with the BS6 emission norms. Along with the BS6 update, the bikemaker has also done a couple of cosmetic overhauls. KTM Duke 250 has always been a handsome motorcycle and now the streetfighter looks even better. It gets a very sharp aggressive design with dual-tone colour shades and big stickering which enhance its appeal. The Duke 250 BS6 is available in two colour shades - Silver Metallic and Dark Galvano.

Bajaj Auto has recently launched the Dominar 250 and it is Bajajs first quarter-litre motorcycle in India. The bike borrows its cycle parts from its elder sibling Dominar 400 and it gets an all-LED headlamp and a twin-barrel exhaust. It also gets bungee straps on either side of the seat to accommodate luggage while riding as it is a touring machine. The Dominar 250 is available in two colour options Canyon Red and Vine Black shade.

The 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 will be powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC, four-stroke engine that delivers 20.8 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 20.1 Nm of peak torque at 6000 RPM, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Suzuki Gixxer 250 also gets a 249cc, single-cylinder engine but with an oil-cooling system and it delivers 26.5 PS of power at 9300 RPM and 22.2 Nm of peak torque at 7300 RPM, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
KTM Duke 250 and Bajaj Dominar 250 are powered by the same mill but they produce different power and torque figures at different rev-range as one is a naked streetfighter while the other is a tourer. The Duke 250 gets a 248.8cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine with 30 PS of power at 9000 RPM and 24 Nm of torque at 7250 RPM. The Dominar 250, on the other hand, develops 27 PS of power at 8500 RPM and 23.5 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. And yes, all the engines are BS6-compliant.

To carry out suspension duties, all the motorcycles out here get a mono-shock absorber at the rear but at the front, Gixxer 250 and FZ 25 get telescopic forks while Duke 250 and Dominar 250 get upside-down forks.

All four motorcycles included in our comparo are loaded with features and all of them are equipped with an all-digital instrument cluster loaded with all the trip-related information. Among these, Gixxer 250, Duke 250 and Dominar 250 also get a gear position indicator while the FZ 25 misses out on it. Also, worth mentioning is that Dominar 250 and KTM Duke 250 also get slipper clutch which its Japanese rivals don't offer.

The 2020 Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 will be launched in India in the coming weeks post the upliftment of the lockdown and it is expected to be priced around Rs. 1.40 lakhs - Rs. 1.45 lakhs, Ex-showroom. Suzuki has also revealed the specs of the 2020 Gixxer 250 BS6 and will be launched post lockdown. It will be priced around Rs. 1.65 lakhs, Ex-showroom, making it around 5000 rupees dearer than the BS4 model. KTM Duke 250 BS6 is the most expensive motorcycle of the lot and is priced at Rs. 2.01 lakhs, while the Bajaj Dominar 250 BS6 is priced at Rs. 1.60 lakhs, all prices Ex-showroom Delhi.

Now, let us answer which bike can be a perfect choice for whom? So, if you are someone who wants a quarter-litre motorcycle with good looks, decent features and good touring capabilities in the budget, the FZ 25 is for you. If you are looking for a good looking naked 250cc motorcycle for day to day usage, the Gixxer 250 is the one you should look for.
Then, if you don't have any budget constraints and want a feature-packed naked streetfighter motorcycle with sharp looks, agile handling and very punchy performance, then close your eyes and get the Beast of the orange hell, the KTM Duke 250 BS6. And lastly, if you are looking out for a punchy performance with a big motorcycle feel and excellent touring capabilities, get the Bajaj Dominar 250.
