Kawasaki ZX-4R - Powertrain, Features, And Price

Kawasaki ZX-4R

The Ninja ZX-4R boasts a 399cc In-Line Four engine with class-leading performance neatly packed into a compact chassis resembling smaller-displacement models. It packs a punch with an impressive 80bhp of peak power and a redline at 14,5000 rpm! The maximum torque stands at 39Nm at 13,000 rpm. Weighing in at 188kg, it's significantly lighter than the 211kg Honda. The ZX-4R comes with four preset riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain, and a customizable Rider mode, allowing riders to fine-tune traction control and power settings. On the SE and RR variants, a bidirectional quick-shifter is standard, but it's an optional extra on the standard variant.

Braking is well taken care of with twin 290mm discs up front and a 220mm rear disc. It also features Nissin four-piston radial callipers at the front, while the rear utilizes an axial master cylinder. Dual-channel ABS is standard. The tire sizes (120/70-ZR17 front and 160/60-ZR17 rear) are akin to those found on the more potent Ninja 650.

The bike comes equipped with a familiar 4.3-inch Bluetooth-compatible instrument cluster that can sync with your smartphone, offering turn-by-turn navigation and notification alerts. The dash also provides a dedicated track layout for those spirited rides.

As for pricing, there's not much official information available yet, but Initial estimates suggest the Kawasaki ZX-4R will be imported via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, likely falling in the range of Rs 7-8 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, positioning it as an exclusive and enticing machine in the market.

Verdict

The reviving of the four-cylinder class from the 1990s brings a breath of fresh air, offering impressive power and advanced features. However, its exclusivity and expected pricing may limit its accessibility to a niche segment. In the global scene, the Kawasaki ZX-4R is set to rival the Honda CBR650R and Yamaha R7.
