Hyundai AX1 Production To Commence In Sept - To Rival Tata HBX

The SUV department is on a roll in India and every carmaker wants to have a fair piece of cake for the same. Such that, we have seen several segments of SUVs that have grown over the years. In a recent, the micro SUVs are not starting to gain popularity and we will soon have the upcoming Hyundai AX1 and the Tata HBX. The production of Hyundai AX1 will commence from September this year and we have all the details about it!

Hyundai AX1 is the micro-SUV that will sit between the Santro and Grand i10 Nios. This segment will target the buyers who are looking for an SUV but on an extremely tight budget. This SUV will be built on the same K1 platform that is seen on the Santro and Grand i10 Nios.

At first, the production of the upcoming model will begin at Gwangju Global Motors in South Korea. With an annual capacity of 70,000 units, this manufacturing plant is a joint venture between Gwangju City and Hyundai Motors. This balance allows growing the economy, employment as well as focus on the business.

Sharing details on the upcoming Hyundai AX1, we believe it will be powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated BS6 compliant engine. We can expect the launch by early next year. This engine is the same as present in the Santro, producing 68 bhp at 5500 RPM with a peak torque of 99 Nm at 4400 RPM. This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual as standard and an optional AMT unit.

We also have reports suggesting that Hyundai AX1 will also be equipped with a 1.0L turbo petrol unit to cater to a broader category of buyers. The smaller turbo petrol engines are getting popular because of their performance along with returning greater fuel economy.
