Design

Built on Volkswagen's MQB Evo architecture, the Tayron has been engineered to be noticeably larger than the Tiguan R-Line, primarily to accommodate a three-row seating layout. It measures 4,792 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width and 1,665 mm in height, supported by a 2,789 mm wheelbase that helps free up cabin space. With the third row folded flat, the Tayron offers an impressive boot capacity of up to 850 litres, making it well-suited for family trips and long-distance touring.

When it comes to styling, opinions will always vary, but the Tayron R-Line clearly leans toward a sporty and premium visual identity. Up front, it carries Volkswagen's familiar R-Line design cues, similar to what we've seen on the Tiguan R-Line, giving it a sharp and assertive face. The SUV features sleek connected LED lighting elements at both ends, paired with an illuminated Volkswagen badge that adds a modern touch. The aggressively styled bumpers further enhance its sporty appeal, while the 19-inch alloy wheels round off the look with a strong road presence.

Interiors And Features

Stepping inside, you'll be greeted by a huge 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display complemented by VW's three-spoke steering wheel. Apart from this, the dashboard gets a silver treatment along with customizable ambient lighting upto 30 colours. However, the features package includes an 11-speaker Harman Kardon Audio System, 12-way power adjustable seats with massage function, AR Head up display, tri-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate and much more.

In terms of safety, it boasts 9 airbags, ESC, hill start and descent control, a 360-degree camera, a level 2 ADAS suite and much more. It is worth noting that this SUV has garnered a 5-star crash test rating in the Euro NCAP ratings in 2025.

Powertrains

Under the hood, it is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol mill, which is the same unit as the Tiguan R Line. This unit belts out 204hp and 320nm which is being channelised to all four wheels(AWD) setup, through a 7-speed DSG unit. Notably, this SUV can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds and tops out at 224 km/h.

Verdict

With the Tayron R-Line, Volkswagen is clearly aiming to raise the bar in India's premium three-row SUV space. It blends size, performance and high-end features in a way that targets both family buyers and driving enthusiasts. If priced smartly, the Tayron R-Line has all the ingredients to serve as a true flagship and a strong alternative to established rivals in the segment.
