Tayron R Line - Flagship 3-Row SUV

The Star of the 2026 lineup will be the Tayron R Line SUV, which has been revealed in India. Positioned above the Tiguan R-Line, the vehicle will enter the Indian market via the CKD route. Meanwhile, aiming squarely at rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian. Apart from this, it is expected to boast the same R Line styling along with premium features, including 15-inch touchscreen infotainment, massage seats, AR-based head-up-display, 3-zone climate control and much more. Mechanically, it shares the 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit as the younger sibling of the Tiguan R Line. When paired with a 7-speed DSG, belts out 204hp and 320 nm of torque. Notably, it will be offered with a AWD configuration.
Taigun And Virtus Facelifts
Two of Volkswagens key volume models in India, the Taigun and Virtus, are expected to receive comprehensive facelifts in 2026. These updates are aimed at keeping both models competitive against newer rivals in their respective segments. The refreshed versions are likely to feature subtle exterior design revisions along with significant upgrades inside the cabin. Expected highlights include a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a more upmarket interior finish, and the possible addition of features such as a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and even front seat massage functionality, similar to what has been introduced on the recently updated Skoda Kushaq. Mechanically, both the Taigun and Virtus are expected to remain unchanged, continuing with the current engine and gearbox options.
Volkswagen Tera (Kylaq Based SUV)

The fifth model teased in Volkswagen's promotional image is widely believed to be the Tera, a sub-4m SUV based on the MQB-A0-IN platform. This compact SUV will be crucial for VW's volume push, targeting mass-market rivals like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Maruti Suzuki Brezza with an affordable price tag and practical design. Under the skin, it is expected to share engines and major feature highlights with the Skoda Kylaq.
ID.4 Volkswagen's First EV

Arguably, the most intriguing model in Volkswagen's 2026 product strategy is the ID.4 electric SUV, which is set to spearhead the brand's serious entry into India's rapidly evolving EV space. This model represents Volkswagen's first large-scale electric offering for the Indian market. Positioned as a mainstream electric option (likely above entry EVs but below luxury EVs), the ID.4 could be imported initially via CBU before any local assembly plans.

Verdict
With a balanced mix of new models, strategic facelifts, and its first serious EV, Volkswagen's 2026 roadmap signals a clear intent to rebuild momentum in India. By addressing key gaps in its lineup, from a flagship three-row SUV to a high-volume sub-4m offering, the brand appears to be setting the foundation for long-term growth rather than short-term gains. If pricing and localisation are handled right, 2026 could mark a turning point for Volkswagen India.
