Honda ZR-V e:HEV Launched At Rs 48 Lakh In India, Deliveries Begin

Honda Cars India has finally launched the ZR-V in India at Rs 48 lakh (ex-showroom), nearly two months after its official unveiling. The SUV arrives as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) imported from Japan, making it a limited-edition offering for the Indian market. Its biggest highlight is the 2.0-litre strong hybrid powertrain, which delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.80 kmpl. But that's not the only thing that makes the ZR-V interesting. Here's everything else you need to know.

The Honda ZR-V is a five-seater SUV with a length of over 4.5 metres. It carries the title of Honda's new flagship model in India, priced at Rs 48 lakh (ex-showroom). Built on a monocoque chassis, this SUV goes up against rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron R-Line.

Inside, the cabin gets an all-black theme with soft-touch materials through the layout and leather seats designed for long-distance comfort. But the bigger draw is the powertrain. A 2.0-litre e:HEV system runs the show here, compliant with E20 fuel.

This setup pairs an Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 184 PS and 315 Nm of torque. Power goes through an e-CVT gearbox to the front wheels only. 0-100 km/h comes up in 7.9 seconds.

The ZR-V wears a sportier, more road-focused stance than typical SUVs in its segment. Full-LED lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels round off the exterior.

Inside, the cabin gets an all-black theme with leather upholstery and dual-zone climate control. Honda has kept the layout driver-focused, aiming for a sedan-like feel behind the wheel despite the SUV body.

Buyers can pick from four colours: Twilight Mist Black Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Platinum White Pearl and Crystal Black Pearl.

Features

A 9-inch touchscreen runs the infotainment, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included. The driver faces a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system handles audio. Wireless phone charging is also on board.

Practicality gets attention too. The cabin has multiple storage points, including a smartphone tray under the centre console and a console box large enough for a tablet. Rear passengers get a fold-down armrest. With the 60:40 split-fold rear seats down, boot space opens up to 1,313 litres, aided by a low, wide boot opening and flat cargo floor.

Comfort features include an 8-way power driver's seat with memory function tied to the key fob, and a 4-way power passenger seat. The tailgate is hands-free, with kick-gesture operation and a walk-away lock function. Paddle shifters control regenerative braking strength, and an auto-tilt passenger mirror is included for reversing.

On safety, the ZR-V comes with Honda SENSING, which bundles collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and road departure mitigation. It also gets 8 airbags, a 360-degree camera, vehicle stability assist, hill descent control, parking sensors on both ends, and Honda's ACE body structure.

Warranty

HCIL is backing the ZR-V with a 3-year unlimited-kilometre standard warranty and 3 years of complimentary roadside assistance. Extended warranty options run up to 7 years, with an Anytime Warranty stretching to 10 years or 1,20,000 km, renewable annually from the date of purchase.

The battery pack carries an 8-year/1,60,000 km warranty, whichever comes first. Hybrid system components are covered for 5 years or 1,00,000 km, whichever comes first.

End Note

At Rs 47.99 lakh, the ZR-V is priced close to entry-level luxury cars. That brings up a simple question: what do you actually get for the money? Honda's own press release does not mention a sunroof, ventilated seats, a head-up display or ambient lighting. These are features buyers expect as standard at this price, not as extras. The 18-inch wheels and 9-inch touchscreen also feel basic for a car Honda is calling its flagship.

The hybrid engine and Honda SENSING safety suite are the strong points. Being a fully imported car explains some of the high price too. But that is just a reason for the cost, not a reason to buy it. People spending this much money will compare the ZR-V to diesel and petrol SUVs that offer more features for less. Honda is betting that the hybrid tag and the imported badge are enough to win buyers over anyway. The first two booking batches are already sold out, so some buyers are already taking that bet. The real test will come later, once the excitement fades and buyers start comparing the ZR-V side by side with its rivals in showrooms.
