All-New Toyota Hilux Launched At Rs 32 Lakh; Bookings Now Open

Toyota India has launched the ninth-generation Hilux in India at Rs 32 lakh (ex-showroom), and bookings are now open at Toyota India's website and dealerships. It brings an all-new design with more toughness and machismo, along with a new interior enhanced with popular features. The underpinnings remain the same as before, built on the IMV platform, and it is powered by the trusted 2.8L diesel engine paired with a 6-speed torque converter and a proper 4x4 gearbox. Indians can choose between three variants, and this time round, they can also opt for the 4X2 drivetrain, available with the base trim. The line-up consists of 4X2 GX AT, 4X4 GX AT, and 4X4 VX AT, with prices starting at Rs 31.99 lakh, ex-showroom, for the entry-level 4X2 GX AT.

There are six colour options in total: Super White, Platinum Pearl White, Attitude Black+, Emotional Red, and the newly added Sulphur Metallic+ and Ash. A range of genuine accessories, such as headlamp garnish, door garnish kits, side visors, and protective mouldings, will also be available for personalisation.

Deliveries are set to begin from the second week of August.

Design

Globally, the Hilux is known as one of the most indestructible vehicles out there, built for adventure and for paths that don't even show up on Google Maps. Being a ninth-generation model, this one carries several changes on both the exterior and interior, and the most dominant one is the front fascia. Bold TOYOTA lettering sits above the grille, the same treatment seen on the Land Cruiser 300 GR. Toyota calls this design theme "Cyber Sumo", a reference to the stance of a sumo wrestler before a bout. The company is clear that this is only a design term, not a variant or sub-brand name.

The LED headlamps have gone slimmer and sharper, but it's the honeycomb grille that catches the eye first. A new front bumper finished in piano black, LED fog lamps, and sharp daytime running lights round off the front end. The side profile, though, doesn't feel entirely fresh and carries much the same silhouette as before. The new alloy wheels help, at least, and suit the character of this truck. Aerodynamic fins and electrically adjustable, retractable ORVMs are also new additions along the sides.

The rear is a similar story. It's largely unchanged, but new LED tail lamps and bold Toyota lettering give it a fresher appeal. A shark-fin antenna completes the look.

Engine And Transmission: Same Motor, Familiar Feel

Power comes from the known 2.8-litre BS6 Phase 2 diesel engine. It makes 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Toyota pairs it with a 6-speed automatic transmission. A 80-litre fuel tank is on board, which should help on long highway runs. Toyota has not introduced a new engine with this generation, choosing instead to carry over a unit it already trusts.

Off-Road Hardware: 4WD With High And Low Range

The Hilux keeps its 4X4 credentials intact. It gets a proper four-wheel-drive system with High (H4) and Low (L4) range, along with an electronic differential lock. Downhill Assist Control is also part of the package, helping the truck hold a steady speed on steep descents. Suspension duties are handled by a double wishbone setup at the front and a leaf spring arrangement at the rear, a layout common to body-on-frame trucks of this type.

Interior: More Features, Same Practicality

Inside, Toyota has focused on comfort without giving up utility. The cabin gets soft-touch upholstery, metallic accents, and a redesigned dashboard layout. Practical touches include 60:40 split rear seats, tilt and telescopic steering, and power windows with jam protection. Convenience features on offer include smart entry with push start and stop, wireless charging, cruise control, a rear armrest, and PM2.5 air filtration. Drivers can also pick between Eco, Normal, and Sport drive modes depending on the situation.

Technology: 12.3-inch Screen And i-Connect

The new Hilux gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It sits alongside a 7-inch digital combination meter with a metal-tone finish. Toyota's i-Connect suite of connected features is bundled in as well. An 8-speaker audio system, steering-mounted controls, and voice recognition are also part of the equipment list.

Safety: Seven Airbags As Standard

Toyota has equipped the Hilux with seven SRS airbags across the range. Other safety kit includes Vehicle Stability Control, ABS with Brake Assist, an Emergency Brake Signal, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and front seatbelts with force limiters. The body uses Toyota's Global Outstanding Assessment structure for impact absorption. A 360-camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system are also included.
