The Transport Department of Karnataka has recently released a new notification that says that the DL of the people found to be riding a two-wheeler without a helmet will be suspended for a period of three months. In addition to this, the riders will also have to pay a hefty fine. With this being said, check out all the details about the new Karnataka helmet rule here.

Karnataka Helmet Rule

The Supreme Court had recently appointed a committee on road safety and based on the recommendation of this committee, the state transport departments were asked to enforce stringent action against the traffic rules violators. Following the recommendation, Karnataka's transport department notified all the Regional Transport Offices across the state about the amendment of the rules. The RTO was also asked to ensure that there was a strict implementation of the new rules.

As per the new rule, those found riding a two-wheeler without a helmet will have to pay a hefty fine and the driving license of such people will be suspended for three months. As per a senior transport department official, two-wheels are more vulnerable to road accidents and the department has decided to implement the three-month suspension rule as per the direction from the Supreme Court-appointed committee.

It is worth noting the fact that the fines for various traffic offenses were steeply hiked after the amendment of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) last year. Moreover, the MVA has also given the state governments and transport departments to make changes to the fine and punishment as per the needs of the individual states.
