Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Launch Scheduled for November 4: Here's All You Can Expect

Mercedes-Benz has fixed 4 November 2026 as the India launch date for the GLC Electric. Its most popular SUV nameplate now gets a fully electric version, and this one will be built in India.

Made in India

The GLC Electric will be assembled at Mercedes-Benz's Chakan plant in Pune. The carmaker says this is the shortest gap it has ever managed between a global launch and Indian assembly of the same model. Sales began in Europe only about six months ago. Local assembly should also help with pricing, which matters in a segment where every lakh counts. Bookings open in early October, a few weeks before the launch.

One Variant Only

Mercedes is keeping things simple for India. Buyers will get a single GLC 400 4Matic, with no long-wheelbase version like the one sold in China. The standard 2,972mm wheelbase stays.

Performance and range

Two electric motors, one per axle, provide all-wheel drive and draw power from a 94kWh battery.

A 4.3-second sprint is quick for a heavy SUV, and it puts the GLC Electric well ahead of most petrol-powered rivals off the line. WLTP range is generally more optimistic than real-world driving, so expect noticeably less on Indian highways with the AC on. Rear-axle steering will be standard, which should make parking and U-turns easier in a car this big.

Charging

Globally, the GLC Electric supports DC fast charging of up to 330kW. Mercedes claims this can add roughly 300km of range in about 10 minutes. You will only get those numbers on a charger that can deliver that kind of power, and very few Indian public chargers can. Mercedes has not yet said which charging speeds will apply here.

Design

The GLC Electric looks distinctly EV-like, with an illuminated grille and star-patterned LED lighting. The front has star-shaped daytime running lamps, and the rear has matching star-motif tail-lamps joined by a gloss-black strip. The car also gets flush door handles and wheels of up to 21 inches. The front badge lights up, while the rear carries a solid 3D star. Overseas, an AMG Line package adds a sportier grille and bumpers. Mercedes hasn't said whether it will come to India.

Inside the cabin

The biggest change inside is the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, the largest display Mercedes has fitted to any car. It is a single continuous glass panel covering the driver's display, the central touchscreen, and a separate passenger screen. It runs the latest MBUX software with a built-in AI assistant. Unlike many EVs that push everything onto the screen, Mercedes has kept physical buttons and controls on the steering wheel and centre console. Seating is for five.

Expected price and rivals

Mercedes hasn't announced a price. Estimates put the GLC Electric at Rs 80-90 lakh (ex-showroom). Its closest rival, the long-wheelbase BMW iX3, isn't expected in India until 2027, so the Mercedes will have the segment largely to itself for a while.
