KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- The Arrizo 8 is a D-segment sedan.
- Has been patented not long after the Tiggo 8 SUV.
- Gets petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrain options.
A mysterious-looking premium sedan from Chery has ended up on the Indian patent site, and given the recent patent filings, it seems as if this Chinese car maker seems interested to enter the Indian market. However, this particular model does not seem to match up with the Arrizo 8 visually, which many other publications have incorrectly claimed it to be.

Chery Arrizo 8 Patent Filed; Details

As mentioned earlier, this model does not seem to match up visually with any of the models sold by Chery globally. However, it is possible Chery might be planning an India-specific version of the same. For context, let's get into what the Arrizo 8 comes with globally, and what we might end up getting in the India-spec model.

The Arrizo 8 measures 4757mm in length, which is marginally longer than the current-gen Octavia facelift, which is sadly not sold in India anymore. The design is modern and comes with a relatively balanced approach, with a large, imposing grille, sleek headlamps and a slim DRL connecting them. The profile may remind you of the Audi RS5 Sportback given the stubby boot and sloping roofline. The rear also makes use of modern design elements featuring a DRL strip, and this treatment bears resemblance to what we have seen on the BYD Seal.
In terms of powertrains, the Arrizo 8 comes with two petrol and a plug-in hybrid option. The first is a 1.6-litre, turbo-petrol engine with 194bhp and 290Nm of torque, while the other is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol option with 250bhp and 390Nm of torque. Both powertrains come paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The plug-in hybrid is a 1.5-litre petrol paired to an electric motor mounted at the front axle, backed by a 18.67kWh battery pack.

The Arizzo 8 comes equipped with features such as a 24.6-inch blended screen setup for the instrumentation and infotainment, along with a 540-degree camera, 18 ADAS functions, a wireless charging pad, an 8-speaker Sony sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and 64-colour ambient lighting among other things. It is possible that the 540-degree camera might be given a miss for India, but we can expect the other bits to be offered here.
Verdict
While Chery International itself has made no comments regarding its intentions for the Indian market, given that there have been two new patent filings, we can't help but think something is being planned. That said, it would be wise to wait for an official response from the carmaker.
