Omega Seiki Mobility Unveils India's First Electric SCV

Electric mobility is the future of logistic businesses that conduct last-mile delivery services for their consumers. It is quite evident from the rise in the number of sales of electric vehicles in the country that e-mobility solutions play a significant role in undertaking supply chain management and the consequent transportation needs. It is also a proven fact that business to consumer (b2c) deliveries grow due to the presence and influence of mobility-based solutions. Thus, e-mobility has established its presence among the larger firms that require a fleet of vehicles for door-to-door domestic service.

At this juncture, it is quite natural for commercial vehicle manufacturers to try building a business in the commercial EV sector. However, most of them have backed off from developing a small commercial vehicle for India due to inadequate technology. Not anymore as Omega Seiki Mobility Pvt. Ltd. has unveiled India's first small commercial vehicle- the M1KA.

As for the vehicle, the Omega M1K1 is fitted with a 90kWh battery pack that can provide a driving range of 250Kms on a single charge. The electric SCV is said to take just 4 hours to fully juice up the battery pack with the use of DC fast-chargers available at EV charging stations. The Omega M1KA electric SCV also comes with a payload capacity of 2-tonnes which is quite impressive considering the fact that it is an EV.

The vehicle gets a 6-leaf suspension setup in the front while the rear gets 7 leaf springs which the company claims to be ideal for highway driving as well as tough terrain. It also offers a high tensile chassis that has the strength to carry heavy loads. The brand has also stated that the Omega M1KA electric SCV has the potential to deliver its best in terms of performance for various sectors of delivery business like courier, goods distribution, e-commerce and FMCG amongst others.

Speaking at the event Mr. Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman, Omega Seiki Mobility said "EV market is growing especially in the Commercial Vehicle space on the back of cost-effectiveness, sustainable solution and the increasing support from the central and the state Government. The current SOPs and favourable environment motivate us to expand our EV offerings for our customers."

The bookings for the vehicle is said to commence from Q4 of 2021.
