Mahindra has released the images of the updated 2027 Thar 3-Door. The teased images are giving buyers a glimpse of what’s coming with the new launch in the next few weeks. This is going to be the second update to the popular off-roader in as many years. The changes look centred on the exterior styling and cabin feel. The list of features is also expected to grow. Both official teasers and recently spotted test mules offer a glimpse of what's in store.
Exterior Changes
Unlike last year's relatively minor cosmetic tweaks, the 2027 update brings more noticeable styling revisions. The new Thar is expected to have a redesigned bumper, a wider grille and LED projector headlamps. Likely to include integrated DRLs in the headlamps similar to those on the larger Mahindra Roxx. The Mahindra name above the grille also switches from a traditional badge to lettering embossed directly into the front panel.
Along the sides, test mules point to revised fender flares on the front wheel arches and fresh alloy wheel designs. At the rear, expect an updated bumper along with tweaked tail lamp styling.
Interior Updates
The Thar's cabin already received a substantial makeover last year. In 2025, it received a bigger touchscreen infotainment system, door-mounted power window controls, grab handles on the A-pillar, rear air-conditioning vents, a front centre armrest, and both USB-A and USB-C charging ports.
For 2027, the focus shifts toward adding more features rather than a full redesign. Mahindra may borrow additional tech from the Roxx lineup, such as selectable drive and terrain modes and wireless phone charging. Updated seat upholstery and ventilated seats are also a possibility.
Powertrain
Mahindra may not touch the ongoing engine. The Thar 3-Door should continue with its current engine lineup: a 1.5-litre diesel offered only with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 2.2-litre diesel, the latter two available with selectable four-wheel drive and a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. These engines are time-tested.
