Range Rover Velar 400e Revealed - Plug-in Hybrid With Updated Features

Jaguar Land Rover has started rolling out their updated models for 2021 with some minor refreshments and the new Pivi Pro infotainment system. We saw the unveiling of the 2021 Jaguar F-pace facelift a week ago and now we have the Range Rover Velar 400e Plug-in hybrid. The updated Velar comes with tweaked interiors, PHEV and MHEV powertrains and the new Pivi Pro infotainment. Global orders have begun and we may see the launch of the updated Velar early next year.

The new Range Rover Velar 400e gets the same powertrain we get in the F-Pace 400e. We get a 2.0-litre four-pot Ingenium turbo petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. Combined, the engine and the electric motor produces 404 PS and 640 Nm of torque out of which 300PS is generated from the engine. The 105 kW electric motor draws power from a 17.1 kWh battery pack sitting under the boot. The Velar 400e can sprint from nought to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds and the battery offers an all-electric range of 53 km.

The Li-ion battery can be charged from 0-80% in just 30 minutes via the fast charger. Use the wall box charger and it will be fully charged in 1 hour and 40 minutes. You can drive the new Velar with zero tailpipe emissions for up to 53 km and it itself switches to EV mode while entering in the low emissions zone. Other than the 400e PHEV model, the Velar also gets the MHEV 2.0 diesel and 3.0-litre straight-6 turbo petrol engines.

Talking about the changes, JLR's new Pivi Pro infotainment system is the highlight. It sports a much cleaner look than before and the menus are well segregated. It is also said to be the first infotainment in the industry to have inbuilt wireless Spotify music. Moreover, as it gets the internet built-in support, we get live traffic updates and OTA updates as well.

The steering wheel of the updated Velar - or any new Range Rover - is inspired from the Land Rover Defender and gets touch controls. The new Velar also gets active noise cancellation and cabin air filtration which also decreases the levels of harmful particulates, pollen and even odours.

Land Rover has started taking orders for the new Range Rover Velar including 400e PHEV model. The India launch is expected early next year and it will go head-on with SUVs like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. However, the launch of the 400e PHEV in the Indian market is still doubtful. Close to home, Land Rover announced the prices of the Defender a few months ago and the orders will commence in some time.
