Skoda Slavia Facelift Arrives On August 18: Will It Redefine The Sedan Segment?

Skoda Auto India is all set to launch the Skoda Slavia facelift on August 18. This is going to be the fourth launch from the brand this year, and expectations are really high for this sedan as it is going to be the first-ever facelift for the car, which was launched in 2022. 91Wheels will be present at the event and provide all the coverage, but before that, here's what we expect it to introduce that can make it the benchmark in the segment.

2026 Skoda Slavia

As we all know, the Skoda Kushaq facelift, which was launched in early 2026, has become the blueprint for everything we can expect from the Slavia facelift. Essentially, both are the same vehicles, built on the same MQB-AO-IN platform and sharing the same powertrain options: the 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI EVO engines.

Therefore, whatever new features and updates the Kushaq has received, we have already got a glimpse of what is coming to the Slavia. Here, we will discuss all those changes in detail.

Rear Massaging Seats

This feature sent shockwaves through the industry when Skoda introduced it in the Kushaq, as even cars priced at Rs 50 lakh and above do not offer it. Some critics also argued that equipping a mid-size SUV, known primarily for its driving dynamics, with this feature did not make much sense.

However, in the Slavia, it would feel far more relevant and add genuine value, given that it is a sedan and many owners prefer to sit in the rear seats. Therefore, if the feature makes its way to the Slavia, which is highly likely, it could put the sedan at the top of its segment by becoming one of the few models to offer it.

Panoramic Sunroof

Another feature that we expect the 2026 Slavia to get is a panoramic sunroof, a feature that is immensely popular among Indian buyers and has also been seen on recent Skoda-Volkswagen launches. If it does make its way to the sedan, the Slavia will become the segment leader in this regard, as none of its rivals currently offer a panoramic unit and are limited to a single-pane sunroof.

A panoramic sunroof is something that many buyers look for, especially for long road trips, as it enhances the cabin experience. If Skoda introduces it, it could prove to be a game-changer for the Slavia. However, based on the spy shots available on the internet so far, there has been no clear indication of its presence, or it could simply be hidden under heavy camouflage.

New 10.25 Inch Digital Cockpit

One thing that is almost certain is that the Slavia will get a new 10.25-inch digital cockpit, featuring graphics similar to those seen on the Skoda Octavia RS. The system is expected to offer multiple display modes, turn-by-turn navigation, and a more modern interface.

The graphics are sharper, while the overall UI layout is far superior to the current unit. Although this upgrade will not have any direct impact on the car's performance, it will certainly elevate the overall driving experience and make the cabin feel more premium and contemporary.

8-Speed Torque Converter

Another confirmed change will be the introduction of a new 8-speed torque-converter gearbox, replacing the 6-speed torque converter currently offered with the 1.0-litre TSI engine. This upgrade is expected to make the driving experience smoother and more efficient, something we can confidently say as 91Wheels has already experienced this transmission in the 2026 Taigun and Kushaq.

The existing 6-speed torque converter is already one of the finest gearboxes in its class, but the new 8-speed unit feels noticeably smoother and more refined. Moreover, owners have reported improved fuel efficiency, particularly on highways.

According to various reports, this gearbox, codenamed AQ300, is also more robust and better equipped to handle abuse. As a result, it is expected to offer improved long-term reliability as well.

Updated 10.1 Infotainment Screen

The 10.1-inch infotainment display is expected to remain unchanged in terms of size. However, Skoda's Companion App, built on Google technologies, will bring several advanced digital features to the system, including intuitive voice controls powered by Gemini artificial intelligence.

Although the hardware is likely to stay the same, the infotainment system is expected to gain a host of new functionalities, such as smarter connected-car features, enhanced voice commands, seamless smartphone integration, and a more intuitive user interface. These additions will improve the overall in-car experience without requiring a larger display.

Better AC Performance

Another important upgrade expected on the facelift is the introduction of a variable-geometry air-conditioning compressor, replacing the fixed-geometry unit found in the current model. This new compressor can adjust its cooling output according to the cabin's requirements, resulting in faster cooling, improved efficiency, and more consistent performance, especially during extreme summer conditions.

We experienced its effectiveness firsthand during our drives of the new Kushaq and Taigun, where the air-conditioning system felt noticeably more powerful and responsive. Over the years, several owners had reported that the cooling performance of the previous setup was not up to the mark, particularly in harsh Indian summers. With the adoption of the variable-geometry compressor, Skoda appears to have addressed those concerns, making the cabin experience significantly more comfortable for everyday use and long-distance journeys.

UV Cut Glasses

Another feature that could make its way to the Slavia is UV-cut glass, which was first introduced on the Kushaq facelift. This special glazing helps block harmful ultraviolet rays from entering the cabin, keeping the interior cooler and reducing heat build-up during peak summer months.

Beyond improving passenger comfort, UV-cut glass also protects the upholstery and dashboard from fading over time. While it may not seem like a major addition on paper, it can significantly enhance the overall cabin experience, especially for buyers who frequently undertake long-distance journeys or drive in hot weather conditions. Combined with the Slavia's already spacious cabin, this feature would further elevate its premium appeal.

New Front & Rear Profile

These are perhaps the most obvious changes, as no facelift is complete without a refreshed design. The Slavia is expected to feature redesigned LED headlamps, a new front bumper, front parking sensors, and an illuminated grille that seamlessly connects with the LED DRLs.

Apart from this, the rear section is also likely to receive significant updates, including a connected light bar and a new set of tail lamps. Other expected changes include the introduction of new exterior colour options, many of which could be shared with other Volkswagen and Skoda models.

Together, these cosmetic upgrades will give the sedan a fresher and more modern appearance while retaining its unmistakable Slavia identity.

Rear Wheel Disc Brake

The variants powered by the 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine will now come equipped with rear disc brakes, a safety upgrade that is expected to further improve the braking performance of the already impressive Slavia. However, this feature will be exclusive to the 1.5-litre variants, while the 1.0-litre models will continue to get rear drum brakes.

Although the Slavia already offers strong braking performance, the addition of rear disc brakes should enhance stopping power and provide better heat dissipation, especially during spirited driving and high-speed highway runs.

New Steering Wheel

This is one change that could come as a surprise. The Slavia might receive the new steering wheel with Skoda lettering, similar to the one seen on the Octavia RS. Some spy shots of the car's interior have revealed that the steering wheel is heavily covered, suggesting that Skoda could be hiding a redesigned unit.

A new three-spoke steering wheel with a subtle flat-bottom design would add a special touch to the cabin and help distinguish the Slavia from its SUV siblings. While this is purely speculative at the moment, such an upgrade would certainly enhance the sedan's sporty character and premium appeal.

As per our understanding, these are the changes that are expected to arrive with the facelift. Mechanically, there are unlikely to be any updates to the suspension setup or the engine options, while prices are also expected to remain largely unchanged.
