Triumph Scrambler 400 XC Launched; Details

The Scrambler 400 XC retains the core design of the regular Scrambler, but there are a few differntiations that make it look more rugged. The 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup has been retained, but this one gets cross-spoke alloy rims on both ends, and it also comes with tubeless tyres.

The XC also comes with a body-coloured high-mounted beak, along with a small visor. There is a new engine guard and a sump guard, while the side panels, rear-section and the tail lamp remain the same. However, there is a new grab handle similar to the one one the Speed 400.

Powering the Scrambler 400 XC is the same 398cc, single-cylinder mill, producing 39.4bhp at 8000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6500rpm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. It also retains the 43mm USD forks and a gas-charged pre-load adjustable monoshock, with 150mm of travel on both ends; the same as the standard Scrambler 400 X. The 835mm seat height remains common between bot bikes, but the XC comes with a kerb weight of 190kg, which is 5kg more than the regular Scrambler 400 X.

In terms of features, the Scrambler 400 XC gets dual-channel ABS, switchable traction control, ride-by-wire, a gear position indicator, a USB C-type port, adjustable levers, and a semi-digital instrument cluster.

Verdict
The Scrambler 400 XC competes mainly against the Yezdi Scrambler and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, while the KTM 390 Adventure X and the Royal Enfield Himalayan can be considered as alternatives as well. This is currently Triumph's most hardcore 400cc off-roader, and there are more bikes expected on this platform.
