Triumph Scrambler 400 XC: The Off-Road Champion

Priced at Rs. 2,94,147 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), the Scrambler 400 XC now sits at the top of Triumph's 400cc scrambler lineup. Positioned as the more hardcore, trail-ready version, it commands a noticeable premium over the standard Scrambler 400X. However, the bump in price isn't just for the badge - there's real substance under that rugged skin.

This new variant boasts a host of adventure-oriented features straight from the showroom floor. These include tubeless spoke wheels, a windscreen, high-set front mudguard, aluminium bash plate, lower engine protectors, and tank pads - all of which were previously seen only as optional add-ons on the 400X. These upgrades significantly enhance its off-road capability, making it a more robust choice for serious riders looking to tackle trails without compromise.

Interestingly, the cost-effective approach by competitors like Royal Enfield for tubeless spoke wheels (around Rs. 11,000 extra on the Himalayan 450) puts Triumph's offering into perspective. Still, the XC justifies its premium with a complete factory-built adventure package.

Triumph Scrambler 400X: New Look, Same Heart

Triumph

While the XC grabs attention with its rugged kit, the Scrambler 400X has quietly received a stylish makeover. Triumph has introduced a fresh 'Lava Red Satin' colour scheme, which brings a subtle matte finish to the tank while retaining the signature black stripe and Triumph branding. This variant joins the existing glossy Volcanic Red & Phantom Blackpaint job, giving buyers more personalization options without any increase in cost.

Mechanically, the 400X remains unchanged. It continues to be powered by the reliable 398cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 40PS at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm, paired with a slick 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch. Underneath, you get a 43mm USD fork, a monoshock with preload adjustability, and alloy wheels (19-inch front, 17-inch rear) wrapped in road-biased tyres. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc with dual-channel, switchable ABS.

The bike also includes modern touches like an analogue-digital instrument cluster, all-LED lighting, traction control, USB charging port, and an engine immobilizer, making it as practical as it is capable.

10-Year Warranty Makes It More Tempting

In a bold move to win rider confidence, Triumph is offering a 10-year standard warranty across its 400cc models, covering key components like the engine, gearbox, and electricals. While consumables like brake pads and chains are excluded, this extended coverage is a compelling reason for buyers looking for long-term reliability. The offer is valid until May 31, 2025, across all dealerships in India.

Verdict

With the introduction of the Scrambler 400 XC, Triumph has filled the gap for a ready-for-anything machine in the mid-size segment. At the same time, the Scrambler 400X continues to win hearts with its urban practicality and enhanced visual appeal. Whether you're aiming for the trails or conquering the urban jungle, Triumph now offers a scrambler for every rider's ambition - backed by a long warranty and a powerful single-cylinder heart.
